Did you know that about 1.1 million people in the United States are living with Parkinson's disease (PD)? 🌷

🧠 This progressive brain disorder is perhaps most well known for causing tremors, but other symptoms include loss of vocal volume, sleep disruptions, stiffness, and balance issues, among others.

🌟 Howard came to Life Care Center of Hixson following surgery and required skilled nursing and physical and occupational therapies to increase his functional independence and safety. When Howard discharged home, he was fully independent! He is continuing to heal with home health wound care. ❤️

🐣 Easter 2026 at Life Care Center of Hixson was a success! Residents colored eggs using Jello mixed with water and vinegar, and worked on an Easter picture to take back to their rooms. 🖼️ We also had a party to celebrate, and the local library team came out to do a reading presentation. 📖 We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter holiday! 🌸

Today, we got a visit from The Little Country Farm & Petting Zoo! 🫏🐇 They brought Patty the donkey along with rabbits for residents and staff to hold and pet. 🥰 The residents loved watching Evelyn, a 3-year-old little girl, and her parents lead Patty around the facility to meet everyone. 👋 We sincerely enjoyed having you guys at Life Care Center of Hixson and are looking forward to future visits with Patty and other farm animals. ❤️

What does Occupational Therapy look like❓

It looks like someone practicing how to button a shirt again. 👔 Rebuilding the strength and dexterity to hold a coffee cup. ☕ Rehearsing the motions to prepare a simple meal and learning to use a reacher to safely pick things up without bending 🫳.

April is Volunteer Month, and we are celebrating the amazing people of all ages who share their time with our residents. From calling bingo to painting nails 💅, performing music 🎵 to simply sitting and chatting, our volunteers bring an essential joy and connection to our community.

🐰 We had a great turnout on Saturday for our 5th Annual Easter Egg Hunt, which in collaboration with Morning Pointe of Hixson - Assisted Living & Memory Care. 🐣 It ended up being a perfect breezy, sunny day for an egg hunt. ☀️ The children enjoyed face painting, crafts, sweet treats, and pictures with the Easter Bunny! 📸 There were also live rabbits to hold, pet, and even adopt. 🐇 There were thousands of eggs hidden for different age groups, and everyone was on the lookout for the golden egg to win a free easter basket. We're already looking forward to next year! 🌷
