We had a phone call this week that pretty much sums up why we opened Hitchcock Direct Imaging.

A woman needed a CT scan. She has insurance and an $8,000 deductible, which these days honestly isn’t even considered that high. The imaging center she was originally referred to quoted her a little over $2,000 for the scan.

When Sara called her back with our price — $350 — and told her we could get her scheduled sooner, she laughed and said, “I’ll do that in a heartbeat.”

Same type of CT. Same town. Just a completely different price and timeline.

This is what people are running into right now. They’re insured, they’re doing what they’re supposed to do, and they still get hit with pricing that makes no sense.

If your doctor is ordering a chest X-ray to check for pneumonia this winter, there’s something important you should know.

Standard chest X-rays only detect pneumonia about half the time. That means many early pneumonias can be missed, especially in the first few days of illness.

At Hitchcock Direct Imaging, we offer ultra-low-dose chest CT scans that can detect pneumonia with over 90% sensitivity, often approaching 100%, using essentially the same radiation exposure as a traditional two-view chest X-ray.

Same radiation.
Much clearer answers.

We started offering this after seeing patients come in with negative X-rays, only to return days later sicker, when repeat imaging finally showed pneumonia. Ultra-low-dose CT lets us catch infections earlier and more reliably, helping patients and their doctors make better decisions from the start.

Because we operate outside the insurance system, we can provide this at a transparent, affordable price that’s often comparable to, or less than, what patients pay elsewhere through insurance.
