Fantastic article in NYT about DBT!

Studies indicate that dialectical behavior therapy offers greater benefits than more generalized therapy. But treatment is intensive, and expensive.

We are thrilled to announce that we have 1-2 positions available for a part-time clinician, with an opportunity to grow to full-time, in a thriving therapy practice.

We are seeking a motivated and upbeat clinician to join our comprehensive DBT private practice working with adults, teens, couples and families. Candidates must have at least foundational DBT training through Behavioral Tech or one offered by a former Behavioral Tech trainer (such as Charlie Swenson's training) and a current NJ license. Candidate must have experience in providing individual and group therapy, in addition to DBT training.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about DBT and evidence-based treatment, and is excited and committed to growing their DBT skill set. This is a great opportunity to ease into a private practice setting, be on a comprehensive and supportive DBT consultation team, receive supervision in DBT, Prolonged Exposure, CBT, and other evidence-based treatment protocols. Clinicians will be able to obtain clinical hours and receive excellent fee-for-service compensation and training. Hired clinicians will also have opportunities to co-facilitate DBT groups for adults and adolescents, engage in advanced training and consultation opportunities with a training stipend, and work with a diverse patient population. There is also a possibility to expand caseload from part-time to full-time in the future.

We are very much dedicated to ensuring that our practice and our team are warm, welcoming, and supportive, and are committed to providing those that work here a fantastic opportunity to grow.

Requirements:

- Minimum of Foundational DBT training - please only apply if you have either foundational or intensive DBT training or documented DBT experience

- Current NJ license to practice

- Experience in providing individual and / or group DBT, with a strong preference for candidates who also have experience in other evidence-based treatments such as Prolonged Exposure, EMDR, CBT, ACT, etc.

- Capability to provide skills coaching to assigned DBT patients is required, as well as participating in weekly DBT consultation team meetings

- Some availability to work evenings

BTC is a practice of social workers, and as social workers, we believe in fighting for social justice. We abide by an ethical standard to pursue social change, particularly with and on behalf of vulnerable and oppressed individuals and groups of people. As human beings we have an ethical standard to educate ourselves, support POC to achieve a world where human rights are being met and all people are treated equal. Enough is enough.

Really fantastic article in the NYT re: finding meaning and "post-traumatic growth" in times of tragedy, which also highlights our DBT skills of radical acceptance and IMPROVE:

"In general, resilient people have intensely negative reactions to trauma. They experience despair and stress, and acknowledge the horror of what’s happening. But even in the darkest of places, they see glimmers of light, and this ultimately sustains them.

But even more than helping them cope, adopting the spirit of tragic optimism enables people to actually grow through adversity."

Why cultivating “tragic optimism” will help us weather this crisis — and even grow from it.

Our amazing patients have been sending us some of the projects they’ve been doing to keep themselves busy and accumulate positives during this stressful time! We have a seriously impressive Bob Ross painting, a beautiful reorganization of plants, a gorgeous hike, and a project making rock candy! We hope that these inspire others to get creative and have some fun! Feel free to keep sharing with us, and we’ll keep posting them with your permission!

As many schools have moved to teleschooling and many individuals are working from home, we want to stress the importance of ABC please and improve skills!
Some tips:
1. Create a new routine. Spend some time today setting a schedule for your week, planning a mix of productive action steps you can complete at home, pleasant events, and genuine self-care on a daily basis.
2. Get outside! Even with the recommendations of social distancing, take a walk in unpopulated parts of your neighborhood or have some coffee or tea in your backyard. Get some fresh air, and try to do so every day to decrease cabin fever.
3. Make FaceTime dates with your loved ones- if you want to do more than chat, get creative! Find games to play together or pick a movie or show to watch together remotely.
4. Get creative with your family or individuals you live with! Bake fresh bread, paint along to a Bob Ross episode together, work on a family home project.
5. Take care of yourself! Eat well, get enough sleep, maintain basic daily hygiene. Get dressed each morning, even if you plan on staying mostly indoors.
6. Unplug! While it’s important to stay informed, do so in small doses. Keeping up with constant coverage is anxiety-provoking and unnecessary.
7. Identify goals (both short term and long term) that you never seem to have time to work on. Want to learn a new language of develop a new skill? Now is the perfect time to identify and take some daily or weekly action steps and build mastery.

From both of us at BTC, we hope everyone is staying safe, healthy, and taking care of themselves!
