Why Immunizations Matter
At Elkview General Hospital, we believe prevention is one of the most powerful tools in protecting your health. Immunizations help your body build defenses against serious and sometimes life-threatening diseases. They not only protect you, but also those around you—especially infants, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

Staying up to date on vaccinations can prevent the spread of illness, reduce complications, and save lives. Whether it’s for children, teens, or adults, every immunization is a step toward a healthier community.

Protect yourself. Protect others. Stay immunized.

August is Medical Alert Awareness Month
At Elkview General Hospital, we want to remind our community about the importance of medical identification systems—such as bracelets, necklaces, or wallet cards—that can share critical health information during emergencies, especially when you can’t speak for yourself.

Medical IDs are a vital tool for emergency preparedness. They provide responders with essential details in seconds, helping protect older adults and individuals with chronic or hidden conditions. This quick access to information allows for faster, more accurate care and can even save lives.

This August, take a moment to review your own emergency preparedness. If you or a loved one has allergies, medical conditions, or takes important medications, a medical ID could be one of the most valuable accessories you own.

Your safety matters—every second counts.

A heat dome of high pressure is spreading hot temps and high humidity across the Midwest and South.

Prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke:

🆒 - Stay cool. Look for air conditioned or shaded areas.

🫗 - Hydrate! Cool, clean water is best. Drink up throughout the day, as your body sweats.

👕 - Wear loose fitting, light colored clothing

🕰️ - Limit strenuous and outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, usually the afternoon.

⏸️ - Pause and take frequent breaks in cool areas, especially if you're outside.

🫂 - Check in on friends, neighbors and others to make sure they're safe and have access to cool spaces during the heat wave.

🚨 - If you or someone nearby is showing signs of heat illness - like fainting, a throbbing headache and nausea - call 9-1-1 and get immediate medical care.
