End of the Year Road Safety Data 2025!
These results represent more than numbers. They reflect lives saved, families spared tragedy, and communities made safer because of strong partnerships and sustained focus on roadway safety. Help maintain momentum in the year ahead.
West Texas Milestone:
Fatalities across PRSC’s 25 Texas counties fell to 179, a 13.5% decrease from last year—and below 200 for the first time. This milestone reflects years of collective effort and commitment to safer roads.
Southeast New Mexico Success:
Chaves, Eddy, and Lea Counties recorded a 15.2% year-over-year reduction in roadway fatalities, outperforming the New Mexico statewide average by 17%.

🚨 SEVERE DRIVING CONDITIONS ADVISORY 🚨

Hobbs – NM 42-62 Area:
Severe driving conditions exist throughout the Hobbs area. Roads are snow-packed and icy, and heavy snow may significantly reduce visibility.

Affected roadways include:
NM 8, NM 18, NM 83, NM 132, NM 133, NM 208, NM 238, NM 322, NM 483, NM 529, and US 62/180.

Tatum – NM 42-63 Area:
Severe driving conditions also exist throughout the Tatum area. Roads remain snow-packed and icy, with heavy snow causing poor visibility.

Affected roadways include:
US 380, US 82, NM 125, NM 172, NM 206, NM 457, and NM 508.

🚧 NMDOT crews are actively salting and plowing roadways and will continue to monitor conditions.

⚠️ Please avoid travel if possible, reduce speeds, and use extreme caution if you must be on the road.

On a serious note:
Keep space heaters at least 3 1. feet from anything flammable and never leave them unattended.
2. Install and test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors regularly.
3. Avoid overloading outlets and check cords for damage.
Use fireplaces, heaters, and humidifiers safely with proper ventilation.
4. Keep floors dry and entryways clear to prevent slips and falls.
5. Bring pets indoors.
