Correlation does not equal causation but this kind of data is compelling enough to not ignore it. Pesticides and herbicides are pervasive in our food and water systems. They are ubiquitous but we can limit exposure with our daily choices.

Key Findings
Significant reductions in multiple plastic-associated chemicals were seen in the low-plastic group.
This shows that diet and daily habits are major drivers of exposure—especially through food contact materials.
However, exposure was not eliminated, indicating that plastics are pervasive in the environment and hard to fully avoid.

My addition: How to improve elimination of ingested plastic
Dietary fiber (especially soluble fiber)
Examples: psyllium, pectin, beta-glucan, resistant starch
Mechanism:
Forms viscous gel → traps particles
Increases stool bulk → faster elimination
Can bind bile → reduces recirculation
Evidence:
Natural fibers physically trap microplastics via porosity + electrostatic interactions
Fiber is well-established to increase toxin excretion in humans

“Experiments performed on human tissues and in animals reveal that microplastics cause inflammation and damage to cells and to DNA. Observational studies have reported that after surgical removal of cholesterol and fatty deposits (plaque) inside arteries carrying blood to the brain (carotid arteries), rates of heart attack, stroke, and death from any cause approximately 3 years later were substantially higher among patients who had plaque containing microplastics compared with those without microplastics.”

Hopped on the trend in a different way because I don’t understand the trend to begin with. I am always willing to learn from someone else who can convince me that where I stand on something right now is incorrect. Both in medicine and in life.

In just four weeks, diet overhaul resulted in significant shifts in inflammatory and cardiometabolic proteins, as well as cytokine (immune) responses to pathogen exposure.

It’s never too late to improve your diet for modifying disease risk.

The most important decision you make every day is what is on your plate.

“In summary, our data from this largest clinical study involving 1,062 participants suggest that NK at the daily dose of 10,800 FU, which is higher than the recommended dose of 2,000 FU, is significantly effective in the management of atherosclerosis progression and hyperlipidemia. No adverse effects associated with the use of NK is observed. “

Nattokinase can interact with other supplements and medications, particularly those with blood thinning, or anticoagulant effects. Any new supplement should always be discussed with your personal physician before initiating therapeutic intervention.

Don’t assume the bottle labels are accurate if purchasing supplements from Amazon and other online stores.

I always recommend purchasing directly from a brand website or through Fullscript, the platform almost all integrative and functional medicine physicians utilize for their patients. Every product on fullscript is obtained directly from the manufacturer. Fullscript has been in operation since 2011 and is the only trusted third party resource I will use for online supplements. Bonus that they also sell clean beauty products, sunscreen, etc!

Open access to Fullscript is available to all:

The WHI (Women’s health initiative) was abruptly halted and data initially presented decades ago when I was in medical school. It was a questionable study with older women given non bio-identical hormones and the early data was widely misrepresented by investigators and the media. Nonetheless it scared women and doctors alike from routinely using menopausal hormones for decades. A whole generation of women suffered through menopausa stripped of their right to use hormones. Well now, thanks to so many ob/gyn, urology and sexual health physicians out there who have been fighting for the truth and for women’s health we finally are seeing the tides turn.

Here are just a few who deserve so much for the their efforts.

“Randomized studies show that women who initiate HRT within 10 years of the onset of menopause (generally before age 60) have a reduction in all-cause mortality and fractures. Women may also reduce their risk of cardiovascular diseases by as much as 50%, Alzheimer’s disease by 35%, and bone fractures by 50 to 60%. Though the starting time of HRT and duration of use are decisions made between the prescriber and the individual patient, the FDA’s labeled recommendation will be to start HRT within 10 years of menopause.”

I’ve been using low dose naltrexone for over a decade in many with chronic pain syndromes, chronic fatigue, a variety of autoimmune conditions and more recently long covid. For some it’s a miracle. Generally I’ve found it very well tolerated. I’ve had SO MANY patients over the years ask me why it’s not part of standard medicine and why they’d never heard of it before. It’s been studied as far back as the 1980s and I’m not sure why it’s taken the greater medical community so long to acknowledge its potential. Better late than never!

Small study but the data in table 3 is worth looking at. The older adults with higher starting inflammatory markers and cytokines dropped significantly in 16 weeks. And anti-inflammatory IL-10 increased. With an extraordinarily safe intervention. And it tastes good bc glycine is a naturally sweet amino acid. I take it before bed bc glycine is also very calming and sleep supportive.
