My colleague, Barbara Robertson, IBCLC, responds to the "Fed Is Best" claim that breastfeeding has led to the tragic death of a newborn. It really is about how our medical community failed this family. The need for all families to have access to the highest level of clinical lactation expertise, which is the IBCLC certification, and for health care providers to give the appropriate care and interventions following the evidence-based research, is crucial. This is a heartbreaking situation. But the blame needs to be placed where it belongs.

Let's place the blame where it belongs. Blaming breastfeeding instead of our inappropriate medical system for these tragedies is flat out wrong.
