✨ “E is for Esther.” ✨

I had never met Alaine before, and I had never had a medium reading, but something extraordinary happened; she spoke my grandmother’s name—Esther. It was as if a thread of love stretched across time and space reached me in that moment, to a grandmother I had never met but was told I was identical to in spirit and looks. It was a moment of pure recognition that went straight to my heart.

She went on to describe an unusual wooden ladder behind me, the very odd shaped ladder my grandfather, an architect, built with his own hands—the only piece of furniture he ever made. A ladder that remains part of our lives, woven into our family’s story.

She spoke of family dates and a lost ring I needed to find that never suited my style, but now sits around my neck reset in a more modern way, large forests of trees or a tree farm that was significant to me, nicknames of family members I didn’t know, and shared a message: “Save the Trees.” The connection was undeniable. In a time when generational homes are becoming harder and harder to manage, and family ties are stretched. My family’s home, passed through three generations, is called “Three Trees”. A message to me from my grandmother who peacefully died there, to save the Camp, a forest of pine trees in the Adirondacks and a place where that wooden ladder built by her husband, my grandfather has rested for over 47 years.

It was more than a reading. It was a bridge—between past and present, between memory and love. I left with gratitude, clarity, and the reminder that we are never truly alone. Thank you, Alaine, for opening that connection to those we love, both living and lost, met and not met. ~Erica
