When do guide dogs start formal training? 🐶✨ 👀👇
Most guide dogs begin their formal training between 14 and 18 months old, after spending their early months with a volunteer puppy raiser. During that time, they learn basic obedience, socialization, and how to confidently navigate the world—from busy streets to quiet libraries.
Once they’re ready, these young dogs enter professional training, where they’ll learn highly specialized skills like avoiding obstacles, stopping at curbs, and responding to directional commands.
It takes dedication, consistency, and incredible teamwork to prepare these dogs for their future partners—and we’re so thankful for every person and pup involved in the journey. 🦮💛
