Supporting Kidds, Inc. Supporting Kidds Inc. - The Center for Grieving Children and Their Families. (Hours by appointment)

Supporting Kidds Inc., The Center for Grieving Children and Their Families, provides:

Support groups for bereaved children ages 5 to 18 and their caregivers which focus on preventing long-term negative effects of unresolved grief on children. Through group discussion, artistic expression, movement activities, and journaling, participants learn positive coping tools and develop a sense of community. Caregivers learn about healthy grief and ways to support their grieving children. Individual, group and family psychotherapy services, as well as psychological assessment services, provide treatment under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. Group programs are also offered at schools for students experiencing grief and trauma, thereby averting school failure, substance abuse, depression, anxiety and other negative effects of loss. The Survival Kit for Families, a written manual about how children grieve and ways to support them in their grief, is available as a reference for families. The Survival Kit for Schools is provided to school guidance counselors, psychologists, nurses or other personnel to help them understand and support bereaved children and deal with loss in the school setting. Consultation and continuing education services are provided to professionals who work with grieving children, such as teachers, psychotherapists, day care providers, religious leaders, pediatricians, nurses, and school counselors. In addition, informal, supportive get-togethers are held for families, a lending library is available for all interested, educational programs are provided for the larger community, and information and referral services are offered to assist families in locating additional services and materials.

💜 Feelings Friday: Temporary Feelings Jar 💜

Inspired by “You Are Here (For Now),” teens could create a "Temporary Feelings Jar" by writing down difficult emotions on slips of paper and placing them in a jar to symbolize that feelings are real but passing. Later, they could read them aloud or choose to let some go.

🚫 MYTH! 🚫 Going back to school after a death should be easy once enough time has passed.

Returning to familiar routines can stir up fresh waves of grief. It’s normal to feel sadness, anxiety, or even excitement all at once. Support and understanding can make a big difference.

📖 Feelings Friday: "You Are Here (For Now)" 📖

"You Are Here (For Now)" could offer teens gentle reminders that even difficult emotions and moments are temporary. It's an honest, validating book about resilience, growth, and being human.

🚫 MYTH! 🚫 Special days get easier year after year.

Anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays can bring up strong feelings no matter how much time has passed. Grief can change over time, but important days often continue to hold deep emotions.

✉️ Feelings Friday: Write a Goodbye Letter ✉️

Inspired by “The Goodbye Book,” children could write or draw a goodbye letter to someone they miss. It can be as simple or detailed as they want- helping to express emotions that might otherwise feel stuck inside.

Grandparent’s Remembrance 💛

Join us for a special one-night bereavement support event for children ages 5–18 and their caregivers who have experienced the death of a grandparent.

Wednesday, August 20 6:30-8:00pm

Children will gather in their own age-appropriate grief support groups, while caregivers meet separately for connection, sharing, and guidance. Together, we’ll honor and remember the love, stories, and memories that grandparents leave behind.

Consultation is required to register: https://supportingkidds.org/request-a-consultation-appointment/

🐠 Feelings Friday: "The Goodbye Book" 🐠

“The Goodbye Book” uses simple language and bright pictures to talk about feelings after loss. It could be a comforting way to show children that all feelings are normal when we say goodbye.
