🍀 Leprechaun traps = speech therapy gold! 🍀

St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect excuse to turn creativity into language practice. When kids build a leprechaun trap, they’re not just crafting—they’re learning, problem-solving, and practicing communication skills.

Try these simple ways to build speech and language while you create together:

✨ Have your child describe their trap and explain how it works

✨ Ask WH-questions: Who will the trap catch? Where will you put it? Why will the leprechaun go inside?

✨ Practice sequencing: first, next, last

✨ Introduce new vocabulary (trap, bait, ladder, sneak, escape)

✨ Encourage longer sentences and storytelling. Play-based learning like this helps support language development, problem-solving, and confidence in communication. And who knows… you might even catch a leprechaun! 🌈🍀

Save this idea for your St. Patrick’s Day activities!

Sensory lights- Regulating or Alerting? The answer is- is depends on the kiddo!

For some kids, the soft glow and slow movement can be calming and help their bodies feel organized and regulated.

For others, the brightness and visual input can be alerting and energizing, helping them wake up their bodies and focus.

In OT, it’s never one-size-fits-all. We look at how each child’s nervous system responds and use tools like sensory lights with purpose and intention. 💛

At Let’s Talk Pediatric Therapy, we use creative activities like food painting to support feeding, sensory, and motor development. ✨

Painting with food helps children feel safe, curious, and confident before taking bites. This playful approach helps children build positive relationships with food—one colorful step at a time.

Ever wonder why some kids say “wed” for “red” or “tan” for “can”? 👂💬

These are called phonological processes — predictable patterns children use as they learn to talk.

Many processes are a normal part of development and fade as speech skills grow. Knowing what’s age-appropriate helps parents understand when to watch, wait, or reach out for support.

If speech is hard to understand or a process sticks around longer than expected, early therapy can make a big difference. We’re here to help little voices grow strong and clear 💛

Deconstructing foods = building confidence. 💛

Breaking meals into parts helps kids explore textures, flavors, and smells at their own pace. One step at a time, food becomes less scary and more familiar.

Receptive language is all about what your child understands — and it grows so much in the first few years! 🧠✨

From following simple commands to answering “wh” questions, these milestones give a general picture of how children learn to process and understand language. Every child develops at their own pace, but knowing what to look for can help you feel confident supporting their communication.

If you ever have questions or concerns about your child’s understanding of language, early support can make a big difference. We’re here to help every step of the way 💬💛

Why Messy Eating Is GOOD 🙌

Messy Eating = Learning

Messy meals aren’t a problem—they’re part of development.

Mess supports:
✔️ Sensory processing
✔️ Oral motor skills
✔️ Hand-mouth coordination
✔️ Food acceptance
✔️ Self-regulation

Cleaner meals don’t equal better meals. Exploration leads to confidence.

The Myo Munchee is an oral motor device designed to support chewing strength, tongue posture, lip closure, and jaw development—all foundational skills for feeding, speech, and airway health.

✨ Potential benefits include:
✔️ Improved chewing endurance
✔️ Increased tongue awareness and strength
✔️ Support for lip seal and jaw stability
✔️ Encourages nasal breathing
✔️ Can support feeding and speech goals when used appropriately

The Myo Munchee is not a one-size-fits-all tool. When recommended by a trained provider, it can be a helpful supplement to therapy—not a replacement for functional feeding and skill-based practice. 💓😬

Valentine’s crafts aren’t just cute—they’re skill builders 💌

Cutting, gluing, coloring, and assembling help strengthen fine motor skills (little hand muscles needed for writing and self-care) and visual motor skills (using the eyes and hands together).

A fun, meaningful way to support development while making memories ❤️
