PART II. 2/10/26 Today, the Suffolk County Black Nurses Association joined forces with NBNA chapters across New York for our Second Annual Advocacy Day in Albany! We met with legislators, Assembly members, and the Commissioner of Health to elevate the voices of nurses and advocate for policies that directly impact our communities, from maternal health and mental wellness to environmental justice and workforce equity.
We didn’t just speak truth to power; we built power together. Networking, strategizing, and standing united to uplift each other and the communities we serve. The energy was electric, the conversations were impactful, and the commitment to health equity was undeniable.

Celebrating the Power of Black Women in Nursing

Today we honor the strength, leadership, and legacy of the women who continue to shape the future of healthcare. From the pioneers who paved the way to the nurses leading with excellence today; we see you, we celebrate you, and we thank you.

A tea party with purpose.
2/21/26. The Suffolk County Black Nurses Association gathered for our annual Tea Party; an afternoon dedicated to mental health awareness, reflection and community connection.

We are proud of the work our chapter is doing and grateful for every participant who showed up with openness, strength and grace.

2/21/26 the Suffolk County Black Nurses Association hosted its Third Annual Tea Party, with a deeply moving focus on mental health. The event brought together community leaders, healthcare professionals, and advocates for an afternoon of connection, compassion, and empowerment.

We were honored to hear from powerful speakers:

• Mrs. Monifa Whithorn, MSC, MAC-LP, who shared her clinical expertise and personal insights into mental health care.
• Melissa Holly from NAMI, who spoke personal experiences, on advocacy and support systems available through the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

The room was filled with laughter, tears, understanding, and solidarity. We saw each other. We heard each other. We stood together.

We were graced by the presence of:

• Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay
• Assemblyman Kwani B. O’Pharrow
• Legislator Jason Richberg

These leaders presented awards and proclamations to SCBNA chapter members in recognition of their service, advocacy and impact to the community.

The celebration continued with raffles — including gift baskets and a smart television. Our lucky winners proved: you had to be in it to win it!

A successful afternoon that welcomed 3 new members to the SCBNA family.

The food was exceptional and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Thank you Shandon Court.

A special thank you to AR Photo Booth Co., whose photo booth added joy and keepsakes to yet another SCBNA event.
