Sgt. Adam Milligan was presented with his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate today by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission in Raleigh. This is the highest law enforcement certification the commission issues, and requires a combination of extensive education, training and experience.

Sgt. Milligan has been with the Holden Beach Police Department since 2003 and continues to contribute to the betterment of our town and the law enforcement profession.

Congratulations, and thank you for your service.

Update from the HB Turtle Patrol -

Holden Beach Turtle Patrol Awards Grant to Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter

The Board of Directors for the Holden Beach Turtle Patrol recently met with Mary Ellen Rogers, the President of the Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter on Oak Island. Her non-profit organization provides for the rescue, care, hospitalization, and rehabilitation for endangered coastal birds. Sea Biscuit is a local wildlife conservancy partner, and the Turtle Patrol awarded a grant to the shelter for their important work and continuing support for the care for injured and sick wildlife they transport to Sea Biscuit. The grant will be used to help fund expenses for the new Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter located at Oak Island’s Bill Smith Park.

The Holden Beach Turtle Patrol was founded in 1989 to monitor and protect sea turtle population on Holden Beach. For more information about the Holden Beach Turtle Patrol, visit them on their website www.hbturtlewatch.org or visit them on Facebook.

Update from the HB Turtle Patrol - Holden Beach Turtle Patrol Awards Grant to Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital

The Board of Directors for the Holden Beach Turtle Patrol recently met with Kathy Zagzebski, the Executive Director for the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Surf City. The “sea turtle hospital” is the closest wildlife conservancy partner with the Holden Beach Turtle Patrol, and they awarded a grant to them to help fund the sea turtle hospital’s important work and continuing support for the care and rehabilitation for sea turtles transported to them. The sea turtle hospital will use the grant to care for cold-stunned sea turtles. The Holden Beach Turtle Patrol awarded this grant to them ahead of the winter weather that causes sudden and prolonged decreases in water temperature.
A grant was also awarded to the Snooki Travel Fund. Snooki, a Loggerhead Sea Turtle who has a buoyancy disorder due to a spinal injury and can’t be released back into the ocean, has resided at the sea turtle hospital for several years but needed a bigger and permanent home. Recently, Snooki moved to her forever home at the Minnesota Zoo. She is housed in the Zoo’s 250,000-gallon Atlantic Reef exhibit, a tank 50 times the size of her old pool and continues to be a great ambassador for her species.

The Holden Beach Turtle Patrol was founded in 1989 to monitor and protect sea turtle population on Holden Beach. For more information about the Holden Beach Turtle Patrol, visit their website www.hbturtlewatch.org or visit them on Facebook
