In 1908, the first county health departments in the U.S. were established, and public health nurses have been impacting their communities ever since.

Our OSDH nurses handle a range of services from preventative care to child/maternal health and more.

This week and every week, we are thankful for the work they do!

Up to 85% of new moms experience the “baby blues” after birth, feeling weepy, overwhelmed, or moody in the first two weeks postpartum.

It’s common. It’s real. And it matters. But when those feelings don’t go away or get worse, it might be something more serious, like a maternal mental health disorder. Know that you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Behind every thriving school is someone quietly holding it all together.

This School Nurse Day, we’re celebrating the everyday heroes who do so much more than bandage scraped knees.

School nurses are caregivers, advocates, problem-solvers, and a steady presence for students when they need it most. They notice what others might miss. They support both physical and mental health. They keep students in class, ready to learn.

Maternal mental health disorders are the #1 complication of pregnancy and childbirth.

It’s not rare. It’s not shameful. But too often, they go undiagnosed, untreated, and unsupported. We need to do better for moms, for families, for future generations. Let’s make maternal mental health a priority.
