Below is a post from a fellow Physical and Occupational Therapy Provider explaining to their clients (earlier this year) that they would no longer be accepting United Health Insurance. It explains why small Therapy clinics like ours are also contemplating whether or not we should continue to accept United Health Insurance at our privately owned facilities. Please note, we at Wolf have not finalized our decision and have invited United Healthcare/ Optum to the table to discuss reimbursement and their convoluted and difficult Prior Authorization Process plus their unsubstantiated claim denials. I am giving them this opportunity because here in Holiday Island alone, we have several clients, that are very important to us, who have UHC Insurance and we will no longer be able to provide services for them if we discontinue our provider agreement with UHC. This is something we truly want to avoid, however, we can no longer sacrifice the integrity of our services and loose $30 to $60 on every session that we provide to someone who has UHC Insurance. This would jeopardize our ability to remain in business. UHC / Optum are reporting Billion dollar profits annually. Let me repeat... BILLION with a B! Yet they have not improved Therapy reimbursement since 2009 and in many cases have consistently lowered their coverage for therapy services over the past two decades. This is why you are seeing many clinics just like ours, in this region, who are no longer taking any patient who has UHC Insurance. Click below to read some interesting facts related to United Healthcare and stay tuned to see if United aka Optum will finally step up and show up for all of their members that we serve locally. If you have UHC coverage call them. Call our state representatives and tell them how high your co-pays are. Tell them how for a new hip replacement you were only approved 4 PT visits and each of those visits cost you $45 out of pocket while UHC denied coverage for additional visits leaving you weak, unsteady, relying on a walker and dependent on your loved ones. Speak up! Your voice matters!
