Episode 12: Retirement Isn’t a Date—It’s a Transition (And It Starts Early)
Drops tomorrow.

*Send this to your spouse as a gentle warning.
* Or your friends… because they are definitely thinking it.

Tell us:
Are you excited for retirement — or slightly terrified?

The problem is that a lot of women — and I’ve felt this way too — start to feel invisible.

There’s all this quiet, and instead of resting in it, we tell ourselves we should be doing more. Because we’re so used to doing, doing, doing… it can feel like something is wrong with us if we’re not juggling ten things at once.

Our north star feels a little off.
We don’t feel centered.
We don’t feel productive.

And even when you prepare for empty nesting — you get a job, you pick up new hobbies, you stay busy with friends — there are still moments of grief. That part doesn’t disappear just because you planned well.

This season asks us to sit with the quiet instead of filling it.
To notice what’s coming up instead of rushing past it.

Empty nesting isn’t empty.
It’s an identity shift — and learningSpotify

I think we need to look at empty nesting differently.

Yes, there’s grief.
Yes, there’s a shift.

But this season isn’t about loss — it’s about reclaiming ourselves.

It’s okay to rest without feeling guilty.
It’s okay to be curious again.
It’s okay to try a ton of things just because they interest you.

We don’t have to monetize everything.
I used to believe if I was doing something, it had to make money. Now I see this curiosity as an invitation — a chance to meet a whole new version of myself.

This season gives us permission to explore.
To experiment.
To play.

You don’t have to reinvent yourself immediately.
This can be a slow, intentional transition over time.

Maybe joy becomes a side hustle someday.
Maybe it doesn’t.

What matters is that this season gets to be meaningful — on your timeline.

Empty nesting isn’t empty.
It’s an identity shift.

When the house gets really, really quiet… something else happens too.
All the distractions disappear. The busyness fades. And suddenly, for the first time in a long time, we’re left alone with ourselves.

And that can be scary.

We were taught to sacrifice.
To be the supporting role.
To put ourselves last.

So when that role changes, when the schedule clears and the noise dies down, we enter what I call the waiting place—that in-between space where you don’t quite know who you are anymore or what you want next. You’re not who you were before… but you’re not finished becoming who you’re going to be.

That space can feel uncomfortable. Unsettling. Even lonely.
But it’s also honest.

Just like we talked about with birth order in our last episode, so much of what we thought defined us shifts in this season. Things we once felt certain about look completely different now.

And maybe that’s the point.
Maybe this isn’t emptiness.
Maybe it’s room.

No one talks about this part…

We prepare our kids for independence.
We celebrate their launch.
We tell ourselves we should feel nothing but pride.

And then one day…

The house is quiet.
The routines disappear.
The role that defined us for decades suddenly shifts.

And no one prepared us for the question that follows:

Who am I now?

This week on MenoMoms: After the Pause, we’re telling the truth about empty nesting the relief, the grief, the freedom, and the identity shake-up that can catch even the strongest women off guard.

Because missing who you were doesn’t make you weak.
It makes you honest.

Empty nesting isn’t an ending.

It’s a doorway.

And after the pause
we get to choose ourselves too.

New episode drops Tuesday.
Turn on notifications. Trust us you’ll feel seen in this one.

Being the youngest often means being lovable…
but not always being listened to.

In this soundbite, Alyson talks about growing up without much space to have a voice—how decisions were made around her, how she learned to adapt, soften, and stay agreeable.

And then menopause happened.

Not as a breakdown—but as a breakthrough.

This season has given her something she didn’t always have growing up:
clarity.
permission.
and the courage to say what’s actually true.

Menopause has a way of stripping away the need to be palatable.
It invites honesty.
It hands us our voice back—sometimes for the very first time.

This isn’t about becoming louder.
It’s about becoming more ourselves.

🎧 This soundbite is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to speak up, take up space, and tell the truth. Listen to episode 10 on:

Birth order shapes us long before we have language for it.
Before we have choices.
Before we even know we’re adapting.

In this episode, we talk about what birth order gave us—the strengths, the instincts, the roles we slipped into without realizing.
And what it cost us—the parts of ourselves that got quieter, the expectations we carried, the patterns we’re still unpacking in midlife.

Because at this stage, it’s not about blaming or reliving childhood.
It’s about noticing.
Understanding.
And deciding what we want to keep… and what we’re finally ready to set down.

This conversation isn’t about labels.
It’s about compassion—for ourselves, our siblings, and the younger versions of us who did the best they could with what they were handed.

🎧 This soundbite is just a glimpse of a bigger, honest conversation about identity, family dynamics, and reinvention—after the pause.

Birth Order & Breaking the Roles

Birth order may have shaped us…
but menopause gives us permission to renegotiate the contract.

If you’ve always been:
• the responsible one
• the peacekeeper
• the fixer
• the one who never gets to fall apart

This episode is for you.

Today we’re talking about how birth order quietly assigns roles we never agreed to — and how menopause is the moment those roles start feeling very optional. 😌

We’re unpacking:
* Why your old family role suddenly feels unbearable
*Why “this is just how I am” stops working
*How to break patterns without burning everything down
*And why midlife might be the first time you get to choose yourself

Spoiler: You’re not changing you’re evolving.
And you don’t need permission but you finally have it anyway.
Tune in now — Episode 10 of MenoMoms
Because growth in midlife isn’t a crisis.
It’s a renovation. 🔨💥
