✨ Looking Ahead to GLIDE 2026✨

Conference planning is officially underway! We’re thrilled to be building an integrated CME experience coming Friday & Saturday, September 11–12, 2026 in beautiful Holland, Michigan, hosted at the Haworth Conference Center Hotel.

This multidisciplinary event is designed to bring together Dermatology, Rheumatology, Allergy/Immunology, and GI professionals for two days of high-impact education, collaboration, and connection.

🧬 Ichthyosis isn’t one condition—it’s a group of disorders where skin cells fail to shed properly, leading to visible scaling that can range from subtle to severe, worsening in the winter months.

🔍 The dermatology spectrum:

🟤 Ichthyosis Vulgaris (most common)
• Fine, white or gray scale
• Prominent on shins & extensor surfaces
• Often linked to filaggrin gene defects
• Frequently associated with eczema & asthma

🧩 X-Linked Ichthyosis
• Large, dark, adherent scales
• Typically spares palms & soles
• Caused by steroid sulfatase deficiency
• Seen almost exclusively in males

🔥 Lamellar Ichthyosis
• Thick, plate-like scales over the entire body
• Often present at birth
• Reflects profound disruption of lipid barrier formation

🧠 Harlequin Ichthyosis (rare but striking)
• Massive hyperkeratosis at birth
• Caused by ABCA12 transporter defects
• Illustrates how lipid transport is essential for survival

✨ Why this is fascinating:
Ichthyosis shows us that skin isn’t just a covering—it’s a genetically programmed organ whose failure affects hydration, temperature control, immunity, and even mobility.

📣 Clinical insight:
Severity isn’t just about scale thickness—it’s about barrier function, inflammation, and lipid metabolism.
