This has been a struggle for me (Abs). As a born people-pleaser, the idea that someone can disapprove of or be disappointed in me is terrifying. I always thought saying no would make me even more anxious, but, surprisingly, it has done just the opposite. Once I started considering my own needs, my brain stopped spending all its time in anxiety mode. There is nothing easy about this work, but it is so very healing.
