This is a great longitudinal study out of Denmark!
Danish researchers conducted one of the most comprehensive vaccine safety studies ever undertaken, analyzing health records from over 1.2 million children born between 1997 and 2018.
Using Denmark's changing vaccination program as a natural experiment, they tracked children for 24 years and examined 50 different health conditions, including autoimmune diseases, asthma, and neurodevelopmental disorders like autism and ADHD, to determine whether aluminum adjuvants (ingredients that boost vaccine effectiveness) increase chronic disease risk.
The results were clear: children who received higher doses of aluminum through vaccination showed no increased risk for any condition studied. The study was so large that it could confidently rule out even small increases in risk for most conditions. This should provide even more reassurance to parents following recommended vaccination schedules!
Reminder: Aluminum adjuvants have been used safely in vaccines for over 70 years, but this is the largest study to directly address safety concerns. The findings counter claims by vaccine skeptics while supporting the continued use of these important vaccines that protect children from serious infectious diseases.
Parents can feel confident that the small amounts of aluminum in childhood vaccines are not causing an "epidemic of chronic diseases," as one researcher put it.
