I am a certified Reiki master practitioner specializing in treating horses and their riders to achieve holistic healing and health. My Path to Equine Reiki (12/17/13)
I began my study of Reiki during 2009 and as 2011 and as 2013 progressed; I received my level 2 and level 3 certificates. During this same period I was completing my paid employment years and headed towards a formal retirement. I was also transitioning towards self-employment. Initially I practiced Reiki healing on my self, my family, friends, large working-dogs and somewhat surprisingly found myself “called” to share Reiki with equines. I have ridden horses in high school and with a few friends through the years and had been present when foals were born. But living and working in the city as an adult I had never owned a horse. Also when I was in my twenties and my sons were small we were Christian Scientist’s, a sect that that believe in the healing power of prayer and I experienced healing through prayer first-hand. Through my adulthood I had used acupuncture, massage, and a Rife machine for myself many times over the years. My trust in alternative methods of healing was set early on. At age 50 I moved back to the country for pre-retirement with plans to retire there and to have animals at last. Living in a very rural area, horses and other large animals are prevalent here and I continued to use acupuncture for myself and my Labrador retrievers. Apparently Spirit has ideas of its own as calls for horses, donkeys and cows began coming in. Many times I found myself sharing Reiki with the animal and their owners together, each benefiting in their own way. MY CLIENTS:
Jacque: One of my earliest “clients” was Jacque, a one-eyed rescue horse with a sore tendon. Jacque, an older well-trained athlete, was feeling the effects of the cold winter and was suffering. This horse had an extremely active chakra system and I felt his energy field pulsing as soon as I touched his back. As I began to work Jacque kept putting his nose to his flank telling me that this is the area I need you to work on. He had enjoyed Reiki and acupuncture previously, and he knew exactly what he needed and would not take no for an answer! As soon as I began working on this area he quieted down and began to take the healing energy in. After some 40 minutes of work all over his majestic body his repeated yawning and chewing told me he was releasing. He then and then closing his eyes and falling asleep told me he was content and our process was complete. His owner sat on the stall floor next to us while I worked and she enjoyed the flowing energy as well! SHAIKH and Friend:
Shaikh is a 37-year-old Arabian stallion that is showing signs of aging, favoring a back leg and losing enough weight that his owner was getting concerned. When I arrived to work on him, I found his best friend and roommate is a donkey. Shaikh was a challenge for me due to his tremendous nervous energy that caused him to circle his stall and then come back tome the entire time I was sharing Reiki with him. I was told he does this with anyone sharing Reiki with him, including his owner. As Kathleen Prasad says” Allow the horse to move freely in the treatment space,” and we did. I knew to let go of my expectations and that the Reiki would work for his highest good. He did offer me several kisses which told me that although he appears to be very agitated at time in his movements, he too was happy I was working with him. He is also very bonded to his owner who was in the barn sweeping and cleaning up during our session. (Note to self: ask owner to sit quietly during our session to encourage horse to relax as well.) I was warned that both Shaikh and his donkey roommate are extremely verbal animals and yet during the session both quite down considerably. When I checked in a week or so later, to find out how Shaikh was doing I was told he was doing well. Patty Calf:
The Michigan winter was extremely cold and the temperatures were sub-zero the year Patty calf was born. After two weeks it was clear that she was not thriving and all efforts to help her with allopathic medicine had not worked. I received a call indicating that it looked like the calf was not going to make it and would I please come and give her some Reiki to ease her transition? When I arrived she was lying totally still on the floor of the farm kitchen under a heating pad. I found very little life force left in her body. Though her breathing increase and her body moved during the session and she moaned, it was very evident to me that the purpose of the Reiki I gave her that day was to help her pass from this life to the next one. These Reiki treatment examples, each very different from the other, show me indeed that the Reiki healing goes where it is needed and in the manner necessary. Each session is quite different. I do not prejudge or try direct the session or the flow of energy; that is up to the animal under my hands and to Spirit. I am in its service. I studied with Sharon Dee, Reiki Master and Teacher and Lisa Talbert Fry, of New Bavaria, Ohio. Donna Allgaier-Lamberti
