We are honored and humbled to host the American Tinnitus Association's "Founder's Totem" that was hand-carved by ATA founder Dr. Jack Vernon. A scientist, clinician, and artist, Dr. Vernon devoted his career to understanding and alleviating tinnitus - introducing the concept of tinnitus masking and shaping decades of research and patient care.

In retirement, he turned to carving what he called “totems,” abstract wooden sculptures symbolizing the ascent from confusion toward clarity. Symbols of hope, perseverance, and the ongoing pursuit of relief for all who live with tinnitus.

To honor Dr. Vernon's legacy and in the spirit of we invite you to make your mark at give.ata.org/silence and *we will match your every donation*

Even a $1 gift moves the needle because it grows our community. A larger membership means stronger representation and greater credibility. Make your mark at give.ata.org/silence Together we can accelerate better treatments, expand access to effective care, and, one person at a time, restore what tinnitus tries to take.

Thank you.

Today we recognize and honor our Veterans. Hearing Loss and Tinnitus are the top two problems affecting veterans. Honoring Veterans This Veterans Day 🇺🇸

Marine Veteran Christopher Cuomo woke up one morning to a sound that wouldn’t stop... tinnitus.

“It sounded like a fighter jet parked on the left side of my head,” Christopher recalled.
One call to ATA changed everything. He got connected to VA tinnitus care and learned tools to manage it.

Tinnitus affects 3.2 million Veterans. There is help. There is hope.
📖 Read Christopher’s story in our upcoming Nov. 15 Tinnitus Health newsletter.

We are excited and proud to announce that Dr. Dokianakis was elected *Chair* of the American Tinnitus Association. The ATA, founded in 1971, is the nation’s leading nonprofit dedicated to tinnitus—commonly known as ringing in the ears. While mild for some, tinnitus can be intrusive and even debilitating for others.
“In the past two decades, I’ve sat across from thousands of patients describing sounds no test can detect and no scan can reveal.
Their words carry more than description—they carry fatigue, frustration, anxiety, and often fear. Tinnitus is deeply personal and profoundly impactful and I am honored to be elected to lead the ATA. Last year, we funded $1 million in innovative research. My goal, as Chair, is to push even further—expanding research, creating stronger patient-centered initiatives, and ensuring every person with tinnitus has a direct path to resources, education, and quality care.” ~ CONGRATULATIONS DR. D!!!

"..hearing is a gift. Not-hearing is sometimes also a gift, though more often a challenge, albeit occasionally with comic relief." - David Myers

Few people have done more for those with hearing loss than Hope College professor and author, Dr. David Myers. Without his efforts, thousands of public venues would not have Loop Systems, leaving those with hearing loss without this "superpower" for clear sound. Despite bluetooth advances, we still recommend Loops today for public spaces and use one in our office. Beyond discussing hearing loss and Psychology, Dr. Myers has a wonderfully engaging and insightful blog that you may enjoy. Check out the latest post below

Thanks to our eyelids, we can, when our head hits the pillow, switch off our vision. Some of us also have “earlids.” When I remove my cochlear implant processor and hearing aid, I cannot hear my own voice. When my head hits the pillow, I hear only the sound of silence. As one who inhabits the wo...
