Cynthia Pollet, Counselor

Cynthia Pollet, Counselor Seeking new ways to reach out to those who may need help when life becomes overwhelming. Message me if you are looking for someone to counsel you. Romans 15:13

It is my desire to provide an objective perspective for clients. I believe every person is an image-bearer of the Creator and worthy of love and respect. Because we live in a fallen world, every person is also affected by sorrow and pain, often causing depression, fear, anxiety or other mental/emotional or relational issues. My purpose as a counselor is to meet people where they, help them find healthy coping skills, and work toward restoration. "I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit."

To those who struggle with distractedness, here are some pointers...

“People with inattentive ADHD are not lazy, stupid, unwilling, or oppositional. They have a biologically based challenge with attending to the task at hand, and their brains tire more quickly.”

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.” Fred Rogers

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.

Current world events make The Uncontrollable more apparent than ever. Here's a great article written by one of my cohorts that gives a shift of thinking to help us through.

Not being able to rely upon control to ensure a sense of safety is OK. That’s because we can rely upon our ability to adapt.

I've been providing tele-mental health services for the last two+ years but certainly much more these days. I like to have beauty in the space around me as I listen to clients who deal with a myriad of struggles. But my space was not always so Zen.
When I first came home during quarantine, my home office was a mess. It was the catch-all for many of my hobbies. I was overwhelmed by it all! I kept the "screen area" clear, but chaos prevailed everywhere else. At that point, I wasn't sure where to start. The walls were also a very dark color (I called it mud) but there was no way I could even imagine clearing the space enough to paint.
Sometimes having an objective person look at your stuff is the best way to begin to overcome the paralyzing effect of Overwhelm. I am truly grateful to my daughter who helped me sort and organize my materials. Once she got the ball rolling, I was able to haul unneeded stuff out, get the painting done, and add those finishing touches to help my headspace while transitioning to working from home.
The next step is to maintain that clear space... I'm open to suggestions! 😁
