In the construction industry, the work is demanding, the hours are long, and the culture often says “tough it out.” But beneath the hard hats and strong hands are men and women carrying heavy burdens—sometimes silently. As chaplains, counselors, and pastors, we I want to say clearly: your mental health matters just as much as your physical safety. Su***de is one of the leading risks in this field, and silence can be deadly.
What saves lives is not just safety harnesses and steel-toed boots, but also kindness, care, and concern. When you take the time to check in with a coworker, to ask “Are you doing okay?” or to notice when someone seems off, you are building more than structures—you are building a culture where people know they are not alone. That simple question, that moment of listening, can be the lifeline someone needs.
If you are struggling, please don’t carry it by yourself. Talk with a trusted friend, a spiritual advisor, a profession, or your corporate chaplain or call the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline at 988. You are not a burden, and you are not alone. Together, we can make our job sites not only places of strength and skill, but also places of compassion, healing, and hope.
