We’re excited to welcome a new specialist to Lotus Chiropractic & Acupuncture!

Starting January 3, 2026, we will be welcoming Ashley Ott, MS, OTR/L, CLT, as an independent contractor Lymphedema Therapist, available every Saturday from 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Ashley Ott, MS, OTR/L, CLT, is a New York State licensed Occupational Therapist and Certified Lymphedema Therapist. Ashley graduated from D’Youville University in 2019 with a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. In 2020, she obtained advanced training in Manual Lymph Drainage (Vodder Technique) and Complete Decongestive Therapy through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies.

Ashley currently serves as a school-based pediatric occupational therapist, where she is dedicated to supporting the functional growth and development of the students she works with. She is committed to expanding her clinical practice to provide specialized lymphedema services to patients in need, with a focus on improving daily functioning and overall quality of life.

Outside of her professional work, Ashley enjoys expressing her creativity through photography, painting, wood burning, and music. She also loves spending time outdoors and values time spent with her family and animals.

If you're dealing with lower back pain, you're not alone. But before you give up on finding relief, it's important to know that lower back pain can vary widely in cause and treatment. Here are some common types:

1. Muscle Strain: Caused by overuse or improper lifting. Chiropractic adjustments and manual therapy can help improve mobility and relieve muscle tension, while acupuncture promotes relaxation and supports healing.

2. Sciatica: A sharp pain running down one leg from a pinched nerve. Chiropractic adjustments can relieve nerve compression and reduce inflammation, and acupuncture helps ease pain and inflammation along the sciatic nerve.

Sofía Rosalia Román was born today at 11:18. My wife did phenomenal and now we have a beautiful family of three. We won't be sharing pictures of our baby on Social Media as neither Cara or I like the idea of uploading baby pictures on social media, but we wanted to update all the amazing patients that were sending us infinite blessings for a safe delivery. 🐾 Happy International Cat Day! 🐾

Today, we celebrate the love, joy, and companionship that our feline friends bring into our lives. Dr. Rafael and Dr. Cara are passionate about rescuing animals and believe in giving back to our furry companions who give us so much. We would love to see pictures of your kittens and dogs too in the comments.

Last week we had to say goodbye to our dearly loved house cat after a wonderful 16 years of life. In his honor, we are organizing a collection drive for items needed by our local SPCA. Your generous donations will help support and care for cats and other animals in need.

🌟 How You Can Help:

You can donate directly to our local SPCA, the closest one is in Wyoming County, but donations to any SPCA are appreciated.

Below are the Wishlist of items they need, but after we stopped by last weekend, the two main items they told us are needed the most are cat litter and wet food, specifically paté.

🔍 We conducted thorough research within a 30-mile radius and are pleased to announce that even with the new pricing, we continue to be the most affordable choice for high-quality acupuncture care in the area.

As you may know, our prices have remained the same since our doors opened in 2018, but over the past few years the costs of materials and operational expenses have been rising due to inflation. To ensure that we can continue to provide the highest standard of care and maintain our facilities, we have had to adjust our prices accordingly. Rest assured, this decision was made with careful consideration, and we remain committed to delivering exceptional service at a fair price.

Managing Sciatica with Chiropractic and Acupuncture

Understanding Sciatica:

Sciatica is a common condition characterized by pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. This pain often follows a path from the lower back to the back of the thigh and down through the leg. It typically affects only one side of the body.

Differential Diagnosis:

It's important to differentiate sciatica from other conditions that may present with similar symptoms. Some of these conditions include:

Lumbar herniated disc: When the soft center of a spinal disc pushes through a crack in the tougher exterior casing.

Spinal stenosis: Narrowing of the spinal canal that can put pressure on the nerves.

Piriformis syndrome: When the piriformis muscle, located in the buttock region, spasms and causes buttock pain.

Sacroiliac joint dysfunction: When the sacroiliac joint, which connects the lower spine and pelvis, becomes irritated or inflamed.

Diagnosis

Diagnosing sciatica involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, imaging tests and NCV/EMG testing. Your healthcare provider will review your symptoms and perform a physical exam to check for muscle strength and reflexes. They may also ask you to perform specific actions to see what aggravates your pain.

Common MRI Findings

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is often used to confirm a diagnosis of sciatica and to identify the underlying cause. Some common MRI findings in patients with sciatica include:

Herniated or bulging discs: Discs that have moved out of their normal position and are pressing on a spinal nerve that forms part of the sciatic nerve.

Degenerative disc disease: Changes in the spinal discs as a result of aging.

Spinal stenosis: Narrowing of the spinal canal that compresses the nerves.

Spondylolisthesis: When one vertebra slips over the one below it.

Treatment with Chiropractic and Acupuncture
