At EnduraFit, our philosophy is really quite simple. Treat the body as an entire system instead of individual parts and use different methods to help each client and patient reach their goals. By using this approach, we are able to incorporate personal training, physical therapy, yoga and nutrition coaching for whole body wellness in a one-on-one setting. We emphasize the importance of teaching clients and patients how to move properly for strength, mobility, stability, balance and injury prevention in each program in a fun and inviting setting

WELLNESS WEDNESDAY:

Let’s chat about the importance of SLEEP. 💤

Why is it so important?

Without the proper sleep, our bodies don’t heal well, we stay in a state of stress where our organs don’t function well either (including our brains - hello, parents!). All the best nutrition and exercise routines in the world will not work without restorative sleep.

So, what can we do about it?

💤 Establish a sleep routine - similar bedtimes everyday

💤 Get some sun - Vitamin D is important to our overall health

💤 Eat well - it doesn’t have to be perfect, just healthy with less sugar

💤 Get active - nothing crazy, but some regular and routine movement

💤 Find your sleep zone - relaxation and the best sleeping temperature for you

Chris and Jake are certified Nutrition Coaches. Part of their training is developing healthy habits, a behavioral approach. And sleep is always the first thing they address with clients. If you’re feeling like you need a little help with these aspects, Nutrition Coaching can be added on to any personal training package.

It’s THERAPY THURSDAY!

Is this you? Have you fallen victim to “TEXT NECK?” It doesn’t have an official diagnosis code in the medical world yet, but I’d imagine it’s not too far away.

💻 In this day in age of technology at our finger tips, it’s so important to remember about posture. It doesn’t matter if you’re sitting at a desk or standing/walking. Keeping proper posture is key to your spine’s overall health and proper total body musculature balance.

😵This is a photo depicting the amount of stress on your cervical spine as you flex it forward more to read all those text messages on your phone. Frightening! Who wants to put an additional 60lbs of stress on their neck just to send a text?! And given how much time we spend on our phones, 60 extra pounds for hours on end will leave us with significant neck pain.

But you’re in luck! Here are a few tips to prevent this added stress to your neck. (And, yes, these are that simple!):
▫️Bring your phone up to eye level. You can do this easily for a quick check, or if you’re going to be spending more time on your phone, prop your arms up on pillows or arm rests to relax a bit.
▫️Strengthening your shoulder blades and postural musculature can help keep your spine in its best alignment.
▫️Take frequent breaks. We all know what it’s like to go down that rabbit hole of social media. Set a timer to force you to get up and move every 15-20 minutes. Your body was never made to stay in any one position for longer.

The 80/20 RULE

🌟 A great reminder as we check in with our progress of the goals we set for ourselves…

Many of us may already know about the 80/20 principle. However, have you ever tried to apply to your general health?

▫️If you can apply 80% of your energy to being “good” for your general health every day, you will see results. This can mean getting the proper amount of sleep, getting in a workout, eating well, drinking water, etc. The list goes on and on.

▫️As healthcare practitioners, we know the general psychology of typical humans. We know that most of us will only be “good” 80% of the time. With that knowledge, we prescribe exercises that even if performed 50% of the time, will still get you results. Strength, flexibility, muscular coordination. These all take time and practice to master and see performance results.

🔹So be patient with yourself. Do the work. But don’t beat yourself up if you miss a day of your exercises, or don’t drink enough water one day, or stay up too late finishing the work for that deadline. Being “good” 80% of the time still works!

Back is sore? Even after you attempted the shovel squat this weekend? We hear ya. It’s the repetitive nature of the task… lots of bending, lifting, twisting, and then sitting.

But, we’ve got you covered. Here are a few easy and gentle stretches you can try to get your back feeling a bit looser and more comfortable.

However, if these gentle stretches don’t seem to cut it and you’ve been dealing with back pain for longer than 2 weeks, PLEASE contact us. There’s probably a little more going on that may need some more specific-to-you attention. We’d be honored to help you.

WELLNESS WEDNESDAY

Let’s face it. There’s a whole lot going on around us that may be distracting us from our day-to-day tasks and thoughts. There are plenty of excuses to not make it to the class or do the home workout. If you live in New England, the frigid cold and snow is a huge contributor.

The good news though… if you’re still pushing forward on your new year fitness goals, you’ve already made it past National Quitters Day! You’re still showing up, you’ve got the commitment.

If you’re feeling as though some accountability and just getting your body to a fitness studio to then be led 1:1 through a program is what you need, we’ve got you. We still have room in the schedule to welcome you at EnduraFit.
