Obesity Increases Your Risk Of Gum Disease

It’s true. If your diet is low in nutrients, your immune system likely has difficulty fighting off infections – and gum disease is an infection! Obesity in adults and children can lead to gum disease due to certain proteins called adipose tissue-derived cytokines and hormones, which are associated with inflammation. An imbalance between free radicals and antioxidant defenses further leads to tissue destruction.
Additionally, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and some cancers are linked to periodontal disease so it’s important to take care of your gums too!
