An epidural changes the sensations—but it doesn’t change the need for support. When a client chooses an epidural, a doula still provides meaningful support.
⭐️Positioning - helping you change positions (yes, you don’t have to be laying flat in the bed) for comfort and progress. The bed transforms to help change positions and we can use tools like a peanut ball and pillows.
⭐️Encouraging Rest And Relaxation - making sure that you can close your eyes to rest. You need to conserve your energy. Pausing all interruptions unless absolutely necessary(we’re not afraid to ask someone to step out of the room).
⭐️Supporting Your Partner - your partner can use this time to rest, step out of the room, or eat a meal. I will make sure that they remain connected and confident.
⭐️ Creating A Calm Environment - keeping the lights low and reducing noise. Ensuring that you feel safe and comfortable. I will help you to maintain your rhythm and ritual as labor continues to progress.
⭐️Offering Reassurance As Labor Continues- I will normalize what you are experiencing and answer any questions along the way. I am a steady presence through each phase of labor. I will continue to support your birth goals.
Birth doesn’t stop when pain relief begins. Presence, support, and connection still matter, every step of the way.
