His words looped on repeat in my head as I drove out of the University parking lot. “I feel like the weight of the world is off my shoulders. I just told my major professor I am leaving grad school.” What? Why? Sure, it hadn’t been easy. Grad school is hard! No warning signs and he’s just no...

The other day, while in the kitchen, my husband walked in and asked me, “Is codependency still a thing?” I lit up, as I love discussing these sorts of things, and responded, “It can be.” I met his bid for conversation on the topic by asking, “When you walk into the kitchen, do you like the...

Here is a picture of a brain scan before and after just FOUR sessions of EMDR therapy! Getting trained in EMDR completely changed the way I view and help individuals with trauma. It is a phenomenal therapy, and I am so thankful I get to offer it as a resource to the clients I serve.

There is a lot of hurt, pain, and suffering happening all around us these past several days. I have found comfort in my top 10 favorite quotes from Mother Teresa, and I thought I'd share them with you. Hopefully you will find them encouraging too...

Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person.

Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.

Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.

What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family.

I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.

I want you to be concerned about your next-door neighbor. Do you know your next-door neighbor?

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.

Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.

We do not need guns and bombs to bring peace, we need love and compassion.

As we sit in the unknown, here are some ways to manage worry:

5 Ways to Manage Worry

1. Contain it!

· Keep post-it notes or a journal nearby and write down worries

as they come into your head.

· Drop the post it notes into a container and close it.

· Tell yourself you will look at the worries another time and

leave them contained until then.

2. Schedule time for it!

· Set a specific time to get out the worries and look at them.

· At the scheduled time, allow yourself to think about the worries in the container.

3. Validate it!

· Anxiety often occurs when we get mixed messages about what is happening and how we feel about what is happening. Worry decreases when we say our feelings are understandable.

· Tell yourself it makes sense why you would have that worry.

4. Dispute it!

· Anxiety will decrease when you find evidence (for or against)!

· Gather evidence to fight against the fear. This takes strength and time to do but is worth it.

· If evidence is hard to find, ask a professional for help disputing, talk to a pastor or spiritual leader, look up facts and use all these messages to debate the worry.

5. Let go of it!

· Take the piece of paper the worry was written on and tear it up.

· Throw it in a trashcan.

· Picture the worry floating out of your brain, out a window or door, and on up into the sky.

· Pretend to put your worry inside a balloon. Then picture the balloon floating away.

· Imagine yourself writing the worry out on a chalkboard and then picture erasing the worry with an eraser.
