❓❓I get asked all the time about tongue ties/ tongue tie release procedures. 👅
This is a unique issue because it’s impacting people from birth 👶🏼through retirement. 👵
⭐️Depending upon what age it is suspected, the function that is suffering from a restricted tongue will be different (as well as the symptoms). ⭐️
A newborn 👶🏼 struggling with breastfeeding or a mom suffering significant pain during breastfeeding her baby may be dealing with a tongue tie. See a lactation consultant who is well-versed in this subject and she will know if that’s part of the problem and who to refer you to for a release 👨⚕️
👦A young child who is struggling to speak, speaks with articulation errors, suffers with poor sleep, dental crowding, high-narrow palate, mouth-breathing, trouble eating ….. it can be a tongue-tie. 👧🏻Find an SLP with myofunctional training to evaluate and direct you to other professionals who have experience with restricted oral ties 🎀
An older child may have all of the previous symptoms- possibly worsening. 😣 As they head toward teenage years and orthodontics it is especially important to resolve myofunctional disorders and tongue ties to prevent relapse😱
Adults 👩 with tongue ties are often sleeping poorly, experiencing chronic tension and strain in neck/shoulders, 🤕 experiencing headaches, experiencing lots of dental problems, clenching/grinding teeth, 😬becoming fatigued with long stretches of talking, etc. If the overall airway volume and tongue space will accommodate, a tongue release in adulthood can be life-changing.
An evaluation is the first step! 📋
