Our “Mommas” turned 1 today!! It’s our first 8 hens birthday - Patty LeeBelle, Aretha Franklin, Dixie Chick, Sweetie, Honey, Shelby, and Henrietta. Only 1, Gladys Knight, did not make it to this first birthday.

Well, I am relieved that my birds are not sick.
I am sad, though, that people can be so mean. The lady I sold my 3 birds to has confirmed my suspicions. I asked her for the vets name 3 different times. She never would give it to me. Today, I simply asked was there ever a vet’s diagnosis (which she had already told me there was).
She has not responded at all today.
This was all over $15. 😔

My Grandma...Patricia...Thank you

So, where did it all begin? This crazy love for chickens began with Grandma. Patricia Bayless. If you come to my home, you’ll see random chicken stuff everywhere. Everywhere! Each room has a special chicken trinket. The kitchen is filled with chickens and roosters. These are from Grandma. Grandma Pat.

When I ordered my first set of chickens, I knew I’d have one named after Grandma. That’s the famous Patty Lee Belle. Patty after Patricia. The Lee comes from my best friend’s name. So, perfectly name is Mrs. Patty Lee Belle. If you’ve ever met Patty Belle, you know the girl is a fighter! JUST LIKE GRANDMA! Grandma lived far longer than any doctor ever expected. She was in heart failure for years. Many times, she was given only days or weeks to live. Grandma proved them wrong over and over again!

Guess what? I’m a fighter too! (And honest to a fault) I have this dream to make a small chicken farm. Do I know how to make this happen? Not exactly. Do I know if I can do this? Not really. Do we necessarily have the money to do something like this? Nope! But, I do have a dream that Grandma started many years ago. So I will give it a try. I’m always looking around for ways to make extra money for our family. My husband works, and I homeschool our children. This is a perfect learning opportunity for our 4 children...not only raising chickens and trying to make a business of it but also a lesson in faith and pursuing their dreams.
