Beyond excited and proud to announce Being Human Mental Fitness is partnering with SEND Sports Club CIC.

SEND Sports Club, founded by Paul Dunphy, focuses on creating sports environments where families and communities can grow through sport.

SEND programs are designed to support individuals with special educational needs by building confidence, teamwork, and life skills through inclusive sport.

SEND is building players.
Developing individuals.
Creating communities.

Sport develops much more than skill.
Through sport, SEND develops life skills for the individual and community through:
Relationships
Confidence
Resilience
Leadership.

These skills do not happen on their own.
They are developed through intention, structure, and practice.

My work training Mental Fitness contributes to the SEND ecosystem by bringing the practice of Self-Mastery.
Supporting players
Parents
Coaches
Organizations
Leaders.

Being Human Mental Fitness will help those involved recalibrate the investment of attention, time, and energy to where they produce the greatest return.

Looking forward to the work ahead and what we build together.

The Controller In Action - Control The Controller Before Acting

“Let us set our minds on what is good and just, and govern ourselves before attempting to govern others.” — Musonius Rufus

The Controller takes action
It needs it.

It leaves us frustrated
For having to do everything.

It leaves others
Feeling not good enough.

The Controller
Is great at taking action
And terrible at discerning
What actions should be taken.

Navigating With The Controller - When Control Ignores What Matters

“The first step toward knowledge is to know that we are ignorant.” — Musonius Rufus

The Controller wants to make the decisions.

It overlooks what is important
For the need to control.

It forgets to listen
To what is important
For others.

Projects
Relationships
Focus
Performance
All suffer.

Bring others in.
Take time.
Consider the long view.

Exploring With The Controller - Why Control Limits Leadership and Growth

“Wisdom begins in wonder.” — Socrates

The Controller moves fast.
Decides quickly.
Acts immediately.

But it skips curiosity.
Ignores other maps.
Assumes it already knows best.

In the end the Controller creates dependency and isolation.

Control has a place.
But only in a small window.

Explore before acting.

Thank Your Body - Gratitude Over Criticism As We Age

“Treat your body rigorously so that it may not be disobedient to the mind.” — Seneca

We get older
We see the change

Our bodies are not what they once were

And yet this body
Is the only one we have

It endures
Heals
Loves

Nurture and love your body

Make A Plan - Stop Letting The Urgent Run Your Day

“If a man knows not to which port he sails, no wind is favorable.” — Seneca

The Day Is Consumed
Minute By Minute

The Urgent Wins
The Important Waits

Without A Plan
Performance Suffers

Every Morning Is A Reset
Every Evening Is An Opportunity

Choose How You Play - The Standard Is Yours

“Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be Be one” — Marcus Aurelius

You don’t choose the opponent
The ref
The weather

The game will be played

You do choose
Your effort
Your attitude
Your standard

Separate what you control
From what you do not

I’ve Got Nothin’ - Giving Less To Give More

You’re Not Good At A Lot Of Things - Stop Comparing And Reinvest Your Attention

“Do not waste what remains of your life in speculating about others, unless it is to some mutual benefit.” — Marcus Aurelius

You’re not good at a lot of things. No one is.

We’re specialists. We compare upward and ignore the unseen struggle behind skill.

You are not born with skills. You build them.

Refocus on what you do well. Or build something new. Be willing to be bad before you are good.

The Practice of Self-Mastery
Notice comparison
Remember what you are good at
Invest attention in what you already do well
Choose a new skill and stay with it through struggle

Thought It Would Help, But It Didn’t - How To Reclaim Control When The Weight Stacks

“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.” — Marcus Aurelius

One little thing after another
The task
The project
The conflict
The news
Politics

It stacks

At first emotions are easy to push off
But under the weight they take the controls

Complaining feels good
It doesn’t help

Control returns when attention is reclaimed

Only Two Choices On The Menu Today - Accept Or Convert

“Fate leads the willing and drags along the reluctant.” — Cleanthes

Not much in life is a choice
The day unfolds as it will

Traffic
Weather
People
Politics
Outcomes

When things do not go our way
The default is to complain
Get frustrated
Stay stuck

That option is not on the menu

Only two remain
Accept and move on
Or convert

Accept what will fade quickly
Convert what matters

Refuse the third option
Staying negative
Staying stuck
Complaining
