BIG NEWS FOR SOUTHERN MARYLAND 💙

We are excited to share that Pathways, Inc. and Charles County Freedom Landing have officially signed an agreement to merge, bringing together two long-standing behavioral health organizations that have each served our community for more than 40 years.

On January 12, 2026, our Executive Directors, Birgit Locklear and Joyce Abramson, signed the formal agreement in the presence of both Boards of Directors at our Hollywood office.

What does this mean for our community?

✔️ Stronger coordination of services
✔️ Expanded access to mental health treatment and rehabilitation
✔️ Continued residential housing and day programs in St. Mary’s and Charles Counties
✔️ Greater long-term stability and sustainability

Both organizations currently provide Community Support, Psychiatric Rehabilitation, residential housing, and day programs for individuals living with serious mental health challenges. Pathways also operates outpatient behavioral health clinics and a Supported Employment Program.

By coming together under one organization, we are strengthening our shared mission: providing recovery-oriented, person-centered care close to home.

We are proud of our common roots, grateful for the dedication of our staff, and excited about what this next chapter means for the individuals and families we serve.

More updates to come as we complete the formal administrative steps — but today, we celebrate this important milestone for Southern Maryland.

Here at Pathways, we will not let March leave us without once again wishing Happy SOCIAL WORK MONTH !!!! Give a shoutout to our amazing social workers at our clinic and on our leadership team: Jasmine, Callie, Natalie, Juliana, Sophia, Heather and Birgit - as well as (not in the pics:) Amanda G, Julie, Cassi, John R, Megan and Molly !
Did you know that in addition to this amazing team of licensed social workers, Pathways has a large social work student program, hosting students from several graduate programs as they complete their Masters of Social Work programs? We also host Bachelors level students.

Make sure to say HI and thank all our amazing social workers for their work and their contributions to Pathways, our consumers and our communities !
