Much tenderness

When you revisit
The scrapbook
Of your past selves,
May you flip through
The pages with tenderness.

Some snapshots
May reflect on harder seasons
Where you felt
Caught in the shadow
Of your past
Wondering how long
This deep fog would last.

Some still-frames
May remind you of the darkness
And the devastation of deep grief,
When your doubts made you unsure
Of what to believe.

But may you look
At these versions of yourself,
And see the beauty
Of who you’ve become
Start to shine through
In every moment
Captured in your heart,
In every memory
Engrained on your soul.

May you feel the forgiveness,
The compassion,
The empathy
The grace,
The hope
The flickers of light
That greeted you every step
Of the way.

Surely,
There’s been pain.
Surely,
There’s been rain.
Surely,
There’s been heartbreak.
Surely,
There have been days
Of incomprehensible ache.

But as you look
At page after page,
I hope you can say:
Surely,
There’s been love.
