Happy belated Summer Solstice. I have a little off the grid tending to family matters. My inner family circle encourages me to share this. I have given on average 2 talks a month this year and some radio/podcast interviews, but my talk last month (May) for Miami Pechakucha (chit chat) was the first time I shared some very personal things in public, like my journey with Endometriosis. In the link you will also find the other 6 presenters (I especially liked the ones from Arabia- [has one element that I have in my talk] AND Clarimar). Before you watch mine, please read the preface below...
Giving a canned presentation with slides that moved automatically every 20 seconds for a total of 20 slides, approx 7 min is not my usual style of facilitating/interacting with the audience so I felt out of my comfort zone. This format was one of the reasons I agreed to do it as I like to push my edge. It was definitely challenging as I have not memorized anything that long since my theater days. Did I nail it? No, but that is okay, as the main messages I intended seemed to be heard.
The Pechakucha team wanted a real story. I am not sure if I would do something like this again, but if I do I will add more pauses for time to reflect and absorb in the moment. It was tricky to decide on more pauses for this story as there was a critical amount that needed to be shared for the piece to be coherent with the symbolism that I chose to weave through. I am grateful to them for the opportunity and sharing this video of the talk with me.
