National Blood Cancer Awareness Month is observed annually in September to raise awareness and support for individuals affected by blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. Sickle cell disease is a genetic condition affecting red blood cells, causing them to become rigid and sticky, resembling a C-shaped farm tool, or "sickle." It is the most common inherited blood disease in the U.S., so it is important to diagnose the issue early to prevent complications later in life.
