Today I performed an on the left hand of a patient on whom I performed the same surgery for his right hand in 2019. When I first met him for the first surgery, he lived in Old Bridge but has since moved to eastern Pennsylvania. He not only remembered me for my treatment of his 7 years ago, he drove two hours to have me treat the other side. Today after the surgery on his left hand, in the recovery room he told me “If I had a third hand, I’d let you operate on it” 🥰 I’m grateful for his appreciation, loyalty, and effort to come see me from across a long distance 🙏🏻

I love to see smiles on my medical students’ faces! 😁😁Grace and Nilus gave their final presentations today and I enjoyed both. Grace presented on “Benign and Malignant Tumors of the Hand” and Nilus presented “Flap Selection in Mohs Reconstruction”. Grace is going on to complete her orthopedic surgery residency in central Pennsylvania and Nilus will be conducting a research fellowship in plastic surgery next year as he builds up his application to apply for residency in plastic surgery. It was fun spending time with them this past month and I think they enjoyed the elective. I hope they learned important concepts and techniques that will serve them well in their respective careers. 👨🏻‍⚕️

This patient presented to me with a painful discoloration in her right small fingernail. Cold weather 🥶 seemed to aggravate the pain. I suspected a , and MRI confirmed the diagnosis. You can see the tumor light up on the study. I removed the pesky mass in the operating room in an outpatient surgery. A month later the patient was pain free, back to work, and her nail was stable 💅

Christopher Diaz MS4 was the first HMSoM medical student to complete the Plastic and Hand Surgery elective for the Winter/Spring ‘26 semester. Chris is a future orthopedic surgeon and did a wonderful job on rotation with us this month. He gave his final presentation today on “Flap Coverage of Open Tibial Shaft Fractures” and it was well done. I wish him well on his future career in orthopedics and spine surgery and hope he has gained knowledge and skills from the course that will help him help others in the future 🙏🏻 👨🏻‍⚕️

This lovely lady presented to me with concerns of deflation and sagging in her breasts after losing a significant amount of weight. She felt like she had to “pour” her breasts into her bra. I recommended a mastopexy with dermal suspension and parenchymal reshaping (Rubin mastopexy). In this technique we use the patient’s own breast tissue to augment her breasts while performing the lift. She is three weeks out from surgery and her breasts look lifted, perky, and natural. She also shows great improvement in her significant pre-op asymmetry. The medical student on rotation with me today asked me what type of implants I used for her and my answer was “none”. 👙👀🔥
