As midwives, we celebrate joy and new life—but we also hold space for sorrow and loss.
This week, I hold space for two families whose pregnancies ended far too soon.

These babies were deeply wanted, fiercely loved, and will always be remembered.

There are no right words—only presence, compassion, and the honoring of their lives, however brief.

I stand with you in grief, in love, and in remembrance.

Driftless Community Midwives—We are an out of hospital community of midwives—each with solo (home/birth-center)practices. We enjoy working together by assisting and backing each other up, training together, and gathering for regular peer reviews. This was our 2025 year in review!

We serve the driftless region spanning many counties—from SE Minnesota to west central WI.

Nearly 20 years ago, my interest in nutrition was sparked.
It took another decade of unlearning, relearning, and slowly transitioning to the most nourishing, beneficial foods.

This plate?
As a kid, I would have absolutely protested half of what’s on it 😅
Whole foods. Real fats. Fermented flavors. Quality meats. Greens that actually taste like greens.

But my kids?
They don’t protest any of it.
They eat it all. They love it. Because this is what they grew up with.

Balanced. Nutrient-dense. Satisfying.

One of the greatest gifts we can give our kids is early exposure — letting their palate develop alongside their body. When real food is normal from the beginning, appreciation comes naturally.

Food preferences aren’t fixed.
They’re taught.
And they’re worth teaching early 🤍

🌸 Welcome Earthside, sweet baby girl 🌸

This little one kept her mama on her toes with several days of on-again, off-again labor — likely thanks to her adorable little hand tucked right up by her face… a position she proudly kept as she entered the world. 💕

Her mama, a second-time client, showed such patience, resilience, and quiet strength through every twist and turn. It was an honor to witness her trust her body, stay the course, and finally bring her daughter into her arms in the most beautiful way.

Serving families is always a gift… but there’s something especially meaningful when they return for their second (or third, or fourth!) journey with me. Thank you for trusting me again — it truly means the world.
