April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month.🦷
A few months ago, our patient, Mary, came in for her routine cleaning and exam. During her cleaning, Angela (RDH), noticed a hard, red, risen lesion on the roof of Mary's mouth. Because it was located so far back on her palate, Mary was unaware of the lesion.
Our office then referred Mary to oral surgery, where she had a biopsy of the area. The pathology results indicated a carcinoma tumor, which was removed by an oral surgeon.
The cancer was contained and the prognosis is good. We are all very grateful for the outcome.
During your cleaning and exam at Lowman Family Dental, you will have an oral cancer screening and anything suspicious may be referred for further evaluation by a specialist.
