An Update on Ryan ❤
First and foremost, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you all for the incredible love, prayers, and support you have shown Ryan and our family. There truly aren’t enough words to express how grateful we are. During this incredibly difficult time, the kindness, encouragement, and generosity from so many people have meant more to us than we could ever properly put into words. Knowing that we are surrounded by such a caring community has brought us so much comfort and strength as we continue through this journey.
As many of you know, Ryan had open-heart surgery at the end of January and then suffered two strokes in February, the most severe one occurring almost two weeks ago. Thankfully—just like when he faced his heart issues years ago—Ryan trusted his instincts and spoke up when he knew something wasn’t right. Because of that, and because of the quick actions taken by his medical team, his life was saved.
On the day of his second stroke, Ryan underwent two emergency neurosurgeries that ultimately saved his life. Since then, he has been recovering in the ICU at Sparrow. Neurological healing is incredibly complex and often very slow, but over the past few days we have begun to see some encouraging signs. Ryan has been more awake and interactive. He can move all of his limbs, swallow, talk, and he has even sung a few of the words to NKOTB, which gave us all a moment to smile.
Ryan still has a long road of recovery ahead of him, but we remain hopeful and continue to encourage him every day to keep fighting and healing. He has so much to live for—his family, the people who love him, and the countless ways he continues to make the world a better place simply by being part of it.
Please continue to keep Ryan in your thoughts and prayers. We truly feel the love being sent our way, and it has carried us through some very heavy days. Your generosity—whether through kind messages, meals, prayers, or donations—has lifted an enormous weight from our shoulders and helped us focus our energy where it matters most: being there for Ryan.
We are also deeply thankful for everyone who has contributed to Ryan’s GoFundMe Recovery Fund. Your support will make a tremendous difference for our family as we navigate the road ahead, and we are endlessly grateful for your compassion and willingness to help.
Thank you again for surrounding our family with so much love and support during this time. It means more than you will ever know.
With love and gratitude,
Kyle Volz
