For years we at HDC have been telling our patients that it's a brave new world in common sense medicine. Entities physicians were trained to trust for guidance have been repeatedly proven to be untrustworthy. I thought it was worth sharing this video of a Lobbyist for the American Heart Association lobbying to KEEP soda and sugary foods in the SNAP ("food stamps") program.
I've been telling our state lawmakers for YEARS that our tax dollars should pay for healthy food. State lawmakers always say the same defeatist thing: "Well this is a federal program and nothing we can do at the state level. And you're talking about taking on the multi-billion dollar 'Big Food' industry, with a veritable army of good lawyers and lobbyists- good luck with that."
It appears that the new administration is trying to tackle this corrupt beast. Billions of tax dollars are being spent on junk food for the poor, and the businesses that stand to lose all that money are now sending out their lobbyists and puppets to fight back. So now we get to see just who "Big Food" owns. And as many have said for years, the American Heart Association (of all entities!) is one of them. A multi-billion dollar industry pumping out poison has the AHA bought and paid for.
I have no doubt that there are many pro-health arguments that the AHA could make about government subsidized foods of many kinds. But there is no argument that pop and sugar promotes the health of Americans. There is zero argument here. But here they are. They can't hide in the shadows anymore, there is too much money for them at stake. It's shameful.
Next time a doctor following AHA's "dietary guidelines" tells you that you should have a diet rich in "heart healthy grains" and devoid of meat/protein, just remember that they are the same organization who are actively lobbying the government to spend your tax dollars buying Pop Tarts and Pepsi for the poor. Then ask yourself if your or anybody else's health is really their priority.
It's disgusting greed and corruption at the highest levels, and it's high time we starve them out.
This is not satire. The American Heart Association is literally down in Texas lobbying for soda and candy to remain available to those using food stamps.
