Not all heart symptoms look like the movies — and sometimes the most dangerous ones are the easiest to ignore.

Our cardiology partner, Chris Tollefson, APRN-C, NP-C, Cardiac Medicine Certified with the Cotton O’Neil Heart Center and Stormont Vail Hospital, shares an important reminder for :

" Chest pain isn't always the warning sign.
Fatigue, shortness of breath, jaw or shoulder pain can be heart symptoms too.
If something feels off, don't tough it out. Get checked by your cardiologist."

These quieter symptoms are often overlooked — especially by busy adults who assume they're “just tired” or “overdoing it.”
But listening to your body could prevent a serious cardiac event.

🚨 Warning signs to never ignore:

* Unusual fatigue
* Shortness of breath
* Pressure or discomfort in the jaw, neck, or shoulder
* Dizziness or lightheadedness
* A feeling that “something just isn’t right”

Your health matters — and early evaluation saves lives.

Holton Community Hospital encourages everyone in Jackson County to learn the signs, take them seriously, and reach out to a healthcare provider when in doubt.
Your heart is worth protecting. ❤️

Healthcare access in rural Kansas doesn’t happen by accident — it requires smart policy and sustainable support.

The 340B Drug Pricing Program helps rural hospitals like Holton Community Hospital stretch limited resources to keep services available close to home.

This program:

• Is NOT a tax
• Uses NO Kansas taxpayer dollars
• Helps hospitals maintain infusion services, behavioral health programs, cancer care, and more

More than 90 Kansas hospitals rely on 340B to help protect access to care in their communities.

The Kansas Hospital Association recently created this video explaining why the program matters to rural Kansans. We encourage you to watch and learn more.

If you care about protecting local healthcare access, visit our page to understand what 340B means for our community and how you can respectfully contact your legislators.

❤️ YOU are a first responder. ❤️

In a cardiac emergency, the first responder is often not a doctor or nurse — it’s you. And saving a life takes knowledge and courage, not medical training.

Holton Community Hospital proudly supports the American Heart Association’s message encouraging everyone to learn Hands-Only CPR.

If a teen or adult collapses:
1️⃣ Call 911
2️⃣ Push hard and fast in the center of the chest until help arrives

It’s that simple. And it can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival.

Did you know 3 out of 4 cardiac arrests outside of a hospital happen at home? That means you could be the one who saves someone you love.

Be ready. Be confident. Be a lifesaver.

Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the U.S., but did you know small changes can make a big difference? 💙

Losing just 5–10% of your body weight can help lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol, and reduce your long-term risk of heart attack and stroke.

In our latest blog, Dr. Lee Schnee — board certified in Family Medicine and a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine — explains how weight loss supports heart health and why even modest progress matters. 👇

Celebrating National Phlebotomist Week!
This week, we proudly recognize the incredible work of our Holton Community Hospital Laboratory & Phlebotomy team — the quiet experts behind so much of the care our community counts on.

At HCH, our lab performed over 52,000 tests and welcomed more than 13,000 patient visits in 2025 alone.
Every one of those results helped a provider make a diagnosis, guide a treatment plan, or give a patient peace of mind.

Our phlebotomists are often the first step in a patient’s care journey — delivering skilled blood draws, compassionate patient interaction, and precise specimen handling that ensures accurate, timely results.

To our dedicated Lab & Phlebotomy Team:
Thank you for your expertise, your professionalism, and the care you bring to every patient, every day. You truly embody Personalized Care, Hometown Heart.

Help us celebrate them by leaving a comment or ❤️ below!

What a great evening at the 20th Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame celebration. It was an honor to recognize friends and true pillars of our community.

Congratulations to this year’s Hall of Fame inductees: Pat & Nancy Fontaine, Beth Nelson, Dennis & Joni White, and Rod & Shannon Whittmer. We also celebrate MSC Radio Group, recipients of the Trailblazer Award, and Giant Communications, honored with the Unity in the Community Award.

The night was a powerful reminder that what makes our community special is the time, talent, and heart our friends and neighbors give to help build Jackson County.

We’re grateful for those who came before us and excited for the opportunities ahead to continue making our community even stronger.

Holton Community Hospital is proud to be a member of the Holton/Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and contribute to this event with our seat on the board of directors.
