The Jackson County Kansas Community Resource Guide has lists for all these and other questions in our community. Available on our website. Updated March 19, 2026. This directory connects residents with local programs offering support for housing, food assistance, transportation, behavioral health services, medical equipment, family services, and many other community needs.

Resources included serve residents throughout Holton, Hoyt, Mayetta, Denison, Delia, Circleville, Netawaka, Soldier, Whiting, the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Reservation, and surrounding communities.

This guide is provided as a public service and includes community resources regardless of affiliation with Holton Community Hospital.

⚠ Because community resources can change over time, we ask that any updates or corrections be submitted directly by a representative of the listed organization. May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

At Holton Community Hospital, we believe:

MENTAL HEALTH IS HEALTH — AND HELP IS CLOSE TO HOME.

Grief is a deeply personal part of life. Whether someone has lost a loved one, experienced a major life change, or is struggling to move forward after loss, grief can bring questions that are hard to answer alone:

Where do I start?
What comes next?
Am I grieving the “right” way?

At HCH, Traci Smith, LMSW, CGC, offers grief coaching to help individuals find support, direction, and hope as they navigate loss.

Grief coaching can help people:

• Begin taking steps toward healing
• Understand their grief in a supportive setting
• Find meaning and purpose after loss
• Build resilience while honoring important memories
• Look ahead while adjusting to life’s changes

People experiencing grief are not broken. Often, they are simply facing a major change and need support as they learn how to carry that loss in a healthy way.

Traci provides compassionate guidance and a safe place to talk through the emotions, questions, and challenges that can come with grief.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

At Holton Community Hospital, we believe:

MENTAL HEALTH IS HEALTH — AND HELP IS CLOSE TO HOME.

For older adults, mental health challenges can often be connected to major life changes, grief, loneliness, health concerns, or the challenges that come with aging. That is why HCH offers Senior Life Solutions®, a voluntary outpatient mental health program designed to support older adults, typically age 65 and older, who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, sadness, or grief.

Senior Life Solutions may be helpful for someone who has:

• Recently experienced a traumatic event
• Lost a spouse or close family member
• Lost interest in activities they once enjoyed
• Experienced changes in appetite or sleep
• Felt a loss of energy
• Had feelings of sadness or grief lasting more than two weeks
• Felt worthless, hopeless, or emotionally overwhelmed

The program includes support from a multidisciplinary team, including a psychiatrist, master’s-level social worker, nurse, and care coordinator. Services may include monthly psychiatric evaluations, individualized and group therapy sessions, and weekday wellness check-ins.

Family members, doctors, or other healthcare professionals may recommend someone to the program, but a doctor’s note is not required to join.

No one should have to face depression, anxiety, or grief alone. Support is available close to home.

To learn more about Senior Life Solutions at Holton Community Hospital, call 785-364-9610.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that recovery, wellness, and support are all part of whole-person health.

At Holton Community Hospital, Chelsea Shupe, LMSW, provides behavioral health support for patients participating in Medication-Assisted Treatment, often called MAT.

MAT is a treatment approach used in substance use disorder care that combines prescribed medication with counseling and behavioral health support. Chelsea works closely with medical providers, including Dr. Marija Lawless and Dr. LaDonna Schmidt, to support patients throughout the recovery process.

Chelsea’s counseling services may include:

• One-on-one therapy in a safe, supportive setting
• Support for substance use recovery
• Relapse prevention planning
• Coping skills for stress, anxiety, depression, and cravings
• Goal setting and accountability
• Coordination with your medical provider

Patients can expect respectful, nonjudgmental care focused on long-term wellness.
