SPH is moving to Epic!

Managing your healthcare is about to get even easier! We are upgrading our electronic health record (EHR) system to Epic, the most trusted and widely utilized EHR in the country. Epic allows your care team to work efficiently and ensure you have faster and easier access to your health information.

And you’re going to love MyChart, the new patient portal. It has even better features than our current portals, all under ONE convenient log in and account. MyChart connects you to records from all your provider visits, near and far, all with one user name and password.

Rollout is this Saturday, August 9. Registration for appointments may take a little longer than usual during this time. Please be prepared to present your ID and insurance card at your first visit. We thank you for your patience as we go through this transition. Learn more at https://www.sphosp.org/for-patients/epic/

Fishing season is in full swing, and so are hand injuries. Cuts, punctures, and infections are all too common on the docks and at the fillet table.

Caitlin Winters, Certified Hand Therapist and Occupational Therapist at South Peninsula Hospital, shares her top tips to stay safe and keep your hands in working order:

🔪 Keep knives sharp – A sharp blade is safer than a dull one
🧤 Wear cut-resistant gloves – Especially on your non-cutting hand
🧽 Use stable, non-slip surfaces – Prevent slips while cleaning fish
🧠 Slow down and stay focused – Most injuries happen when we’re tired or distracted
🧼 Clean and treat wounds immediately – Marine bacteria can lead to serious infections

Caitlin specializes in keeping hands strong, functional, and injury-free, from anglers and deckhands to anyone who works with their hands. Don’t let a small injury end your season. Stay safe out there!

South Peninsula Hospital is pleased to announce two key leadership transitions that reflect our continued commitment to excellence in care.

Rachael Kincaid, DNP, APRN, has been named Chief Operating Officer. Rachael has served in SPH leadership since 2022, including roles as Chief Nursing Officer and Long Term Care Administrator. She brings a strong clinical foundation and administrative expertise to her new position, and will continue to lead with a focus on quality, collaboration, and patient-centered care. She succeeds Angela Hinnegan, who is departing SPH after five years to become CFO at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. We thank Angela for her leadership and lasting contributions to the organization.

Stepping into the role of Chief Nursing Officer is Amber Gall, RN, who has led our Surgical Services department since 2020. Amber is a trusted leader with a deep commitment to advancing nursing practice, staff development, and high-quality care.

Please join us in congratulating Rachael and Amber as they take on these important new roles—and in wishing Angela all the best in her next chapter.

After nearly four decades of dedicated service, Laura Miller has retired from South Peninsula Hospital. Laura began her career as a bench technologist and rose to Laboratory Director, all while continuing hands-on work and earning deep respect for her expertise and leadership.

Her impact extended far beyond the lab, volunteering internationally to improve healthcare, supporting the local Rotary Health Fair, and always leading with compassion, humility, and strength.

We’re grateful for Laura’s 38 years of service and wish her the very best in retirement!

🏃‍♂️ This past Saturday, South Peninsula Hospital was proud to sponsor the 2025 Homer Spit Run & Cosmic Hamlet Half Marathon hosted by the Kachemak Bay Running Club!

We loved cheering on all the runners, handing out swag, and sharing information about upcoming wellness programs. Proceeds went directly towards supporting local youth running programs, and this year, there were 250 participants! Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate health, movement, and our incredible community! 💙
