South Peninsula Hospital’s Operations Board of Directors is made up of local residents who provide governance and direction for your community hospital. Meetings are held monthly and are open to the public.

The next meeting is tomorrow, March 25th at 6:30pm in the hospital’s conference room (accessible via Entrance B on the lower level) and also available via Zoom.

Next Monday, join us at Kachemak Bay Campus for a free end-of-life decision making presentation with Homer Medical's Dr. Giulia Tortora, local estate planning attorney Lindsay Wolter, and Hospice of Homer Death Doula Morgan Laffert. The presentation will cover living wills, medical power of attorney, legal and medical decisions, and emotional considerations for end-of-life planning, and there will be time for questions, too.

South Peninsula Hospital is pleased to welcome Ian Dobbe, MD, to our hospitalist team. Hospitalists provide care for patients during their stay at the hospital, helping ensure coordinated care from admission to discharge.
Dr. Dobbe attended St. George's University for medical school and completed his residency at Munson Medical Center. He is board-certified in family medicine and most recently practiced at PeaceHealth Medical Center in Ketchikan.
Dr. Dobbe, his wife, and their child recently relocated from Southeast Alaska to Homer. Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Dr. Dobbe and his family as they settle into the community!

Congratulations to Cindy Nelson for 20 years of dedicated service at South Peninsula Hospital! From her early days as a medical technologist to her current role as Quality Assurance Lead, she has helped ensure the lab meets rigorous regulatory standards while supporting high-quality patient care. Cindy works closely with laboratory staff, the Laboratory Director, and the Medical Director to support and enhance patient care services at South Peninsula Hospital.
Cindy is also deeply involved in the Homer community, generously giving her time and energy outside of the hospital. Thank you, Cindy, for two decades of dedication to SPH and the community. We’re grateful to have you as part of the team!

A glimpse into the early 1960s at South Peninsula Hospital: the hospital’s first operating room and emergency room. These rooms were part of the small but essential facility that served Homer and surrounding communities, supporting everything from surgery to emergency services.
As we approach our 70th anniversary this summer, we’re enjoying a look back at the spaces and people that shaped healthcare on the southern Kenai Peninsula.

This March, our Wellness Wednesday line-up includes topics such as Cultivating a Resilient Heart and Speech Therapy 101. After each one hour health presentation, local yoga instructor Joolee Aurand will lead us in an hour of yoga (styles will vary weekly).
