The Alternative Baseball Organization (ABO) is a nonprofit organization providing physical/social enrichment, excitement, and empowerment for teens and adults with disabilities through an inclusive, authentic baseball experience that promotes community integration and instills personal growth. The ABO is an associated member of the World Baseball Softball Confederation.

On November 9th, 2024, the ABO will be hosting “ABO & PROS: Playing for Community Integration” at the Historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

Rickwood Field has seen baseball greats like Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Jackie Robinson, and Satchel Paige grace its diamond throughout the last century. It has been home to the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro Leagues, where Willie Mayes began his illustrious career. Now, this historic and storied venue will witness a new kind of baseball history; one that champions the abilities and potential of individuals with disabilities! The event will star athletes with disabilities from across America; playing alongside and against local/regional “celebrities,” community leaders, and even former professional baseball players in a 9-inning game for the ages! In the spirit of inclusion, admission to the Rickwood event is free for the general public to attend with donations suggested.

The ABO is trying to take an accurate headcount for the event. While they gladly welcome walk-ups on the day of the event, they strongly encourage participants to RSVP in advance to help the ABO properly prepare.
