Allergy Season is Hitting Hard — Let’s Start With What Actually Works
Allergy season is kicking a lot of people’s tail right now.
And what I’m seeing over and over is this:
People think they’re getting sick.
They feel run down.
Their head is full.
Their throat is irritated.
They’re coughing more at night.
So they reach for cold medicine… and it doesn’t really fix it.
Because most of the time, it’s not a cold.
It’s allergies.
And the biggest mistake people make this time of year is jumping straight to medication without fixing the root issue first.
👉 Drainage
When pollen hits your system, your body responds with inflammation.
That inflammation causes swelling inside your nose and sinuses.
And once things swell up, everything stops moving like it should.
That’s when you get:
pressure
congestion
post-nasal drip
coughing
that “foggy” feeling in your head
So before we talk about antihistamines or anything else, we need to talk about something most people overlook:
Nasal rinses
I know… not the most glamorous topic.
But this is one of the simplest and most effective tools you can use.
A basic saline rinse does a few important things:
physically washes pollen out of your nasal passages
clears out built-up mucus
reduces irritation on the tissue
helps restore normal drainage
And when drainage improves, symptoms usually follow.
That’s the part people miss.
They try to dry everything up…
when what they actually need is for things to move again.
You don’t need anything fancy.
A simple saline spray works.
A squeeze bottle or neti-style rinse works even better.
Use it:
when you get home from being outside
before bed
in the morning if symptoms are bad
Consistency matters more than anything.
Now — does this replace medication?
Not always.
But I’ll tell you this from experience:
A lot of people don’t need nearly as much medication once they get drainage under control.
And some people feel significantly better just from doing this one step correctly.
If you’ve been struggling this season, start here.
Keep it simple.
Clear it out first… then decide what else you need.
If I were your pharmacist, I’d tell you this:
Don’t overcomplicate it.
Most allergy issues start with inflammation and poor drainage.
Fix that first, and everything else works better.
