We’re Hiring: Director of Emergency Services

Medina Healthcare System is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Emergency Services to lead our award-winning Emergency Department. Our ER was recently recognized with the Women’s Choice Award for Wait Time and Efficiency, reflecting our commitment to delivering fast, high-quality, patient-centered care.

As our next Director of Emergency Services, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our Level IV Trauma Center by:

-Providing leadership and support to our emergency department nursing team
-Developing and implementing department policies, trauma protocols, and performance standards
-Ensuring a safe, supportive work environment and maintaining full compliance with all regulatory and trauma designation requirements
-Overseeing training and competency in emergency nursing care, EHR documentation, and essential technology
-Strengthening collaboration across departments to ensure seamless, efficient patient care
-Monitoring patient care quality and satisfaction while driving continuous improvement
-Managing staffing, schedules, evaluations, and department budgets
-Coordinating timely transfers to higher-level trauma facilities when needed

Please join us in recognizing Javier Garcia for an outstanding Good Catch of the Quarter, that truly made a difference in patient safety.

During a routine procedure, he noticed a patient becoming symptomatic and immediately alerted the physician—ensuring the patient was transferred to the Emergency Room without delay. Later, when a second patient began showing similar symptoms, Javier acted just as quickly, notifying the provider and helping the patient receive prompt cardiac care.

Because of his attentiveness, quick response, and commitment to doing what’s right, both patients received timely, life-saving treatment. This is an incredible example of how vigilance and teamwork protect our patients every day.

Thanksgiving Hours for Our Medina Healthcare System Clinics

As we prepare for the holiday season, we want to make sure our patients have plenty of time to plan visits and take care of their health needs.

Castroville & Devine Clinics will observe the following Thanksgiving schedule:
• Thursday, Nov. 27: Closed
• Friday, Nov. 28: Closed

Castroville & Devine Clinics will resume normal business hours Monday, December 1st

Hondo Clinic will observe the following Thanksgiving schedule:
• Thursday, Nov. 27: Closed
• Friday, Nov. 28: 8 AM - 12 PM

Hondo Clinic will resume normal business hours Saturday, November 29th

Medical Records will observe the following Thanksgiving schedule:
• Wednesday, Nov. 26: 8 AM - 12 PM
• Thursday & Friday, Nov. 27 & 28: Closed

Medical Records will resume normal business hours Monday, December 1st

Our hospital and Emergency Care Center remain open 24/7 to serve you—because caring for our community never stops.

🌟 Leadership & Advocacy
– Congratulations to Billie Bell, CEO of Medina Healthcare System, on her appointment by Governor Greg Abbott to the Statewide Health Coordinating Council (SHCC), ensuring equal access to healthcare for all Texans.
– Our work was also featured in The Washington Post, highlighting the vital role of rural healthcare facilities.

🤝 Community & Collaboration
– Hosted the Rural Trauma Team Development Course in partnership with STRAC, Brooke Army Medical Center, and University Hospital.
– Supported community events including National Night Out, Downtown Dine Out, Tour De Castroville, and Go Blue Day.
– Joined Hondo ISD, MVISD, and Devine ISD for health fairs, teacher luncheons, and school supply drives.

🩺 Education & Outreach
– Shared knowledge through classes and presentations led by Amanda Rothe, Tanya Moore, and Dr. McCollum — from diabetes prevention and fall safety to healthy eating and heart health.
– Engaged with students during Healthcare Career Days, inspiring future healthcare heroes.

– Partnered with the Medina County Food Pantry and San Antonio Food Bank to fight hunger.
– Donated supplies to support first responders in Kerr County.
– Sponsored events like the Kinetic Kids Walk, Run, Roll Color Run, promoting inclusion and wellness.

What a truly special morning honoring our veterans! Thank you to everyone who joined us at Medina Healthcare System’s Veterans Day Celebration to recognize the brave men and women who have served our country.

A heartfelt thank you to Tony Johnson for his unwavering commitment to bringing this event to our community each year, and to Mayor John McAnelly for presenting the city proclamation. We’re grateful to Linda Perkins for her beautiful renditions of the National Anthem and God Bless America, and to VFW Chaplain John Bendele for leading us in prayer.
