(Honesdale, PA, March 20, 2026)…After more than 40 years as an orthopaedic surgeon in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Dr. Jeffrey Mogerman, is retiring. Just over three years ago Dr. Mogerman scaled back his work by half at Wayne Memorial Hospital’s (WMH) Waymart Orthopedic Center, he is now departing from regular office hours to enjoy more leisure time.
Certified Physician Assistant Edwin Daniels is also retiring from a career in Orthopaedics. Daniels initially worked with Dr. Mogerman from 1985 through 2000. He continued at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem, PA working in the department of Subspecialities Surgery and returned to the Waymart Orthopedic Center in 2022.
Dr. Mogerman has been a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society since 1982 and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was President of the Medical Staff at the former Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale, where he worked for 25 years before coming to WMH.
Jim Pettinato, Chief Executive Officer at WMH/Wayne Memorial Health System has a long history with the orthopaedic surgeon and expressed “my personal appreciation for Dr. Mogerman.” Their connection began when they both worked in the Carbondale area. “He has continued to impress me,” Pettinato explained. “The dedication through the years is really something to be proud of.”
Dr. Mogerman has been splitting his time between here and Florida over the past few years. He said now he’ll be “spending more time (in Fl.) with my horses, swimming, and bicycling.” However, yes there is a however! Dr. Mogerman will be keep limited hours on a monthly basis at the WMH Emergency Department. Remember the saying…you can’t keep a good man down?
Patients have been previously notified and new referrals can be made to fellow Wayne Memorial orthopaedists David Caucci, MD and/or Thomas Allardyce, MD, by calling (570) 647-0001.

WAYNE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL CELEBRATES NATIONAL SOCIAL WORK MONTH
March is Social Work Month, which gives us the opportunity to appreciate the compassion, advocacy, and steady presence social workers bring to Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) patients, families, and care teams.

What makes our WMH Social Work team so special is not just their expertise, but their ability to offer support that fits each person’s needs. Whether it’s helping a patient access critical services, offering reassurance during uncertainty, or collaborating with providers to ensure the best outcomes, they are an essential part of the care experience.

“Our social workers are advocates, problem-solvers, and a source of strength for so many of our patients and families,” said Mary Burgio-Terpak, LCSW, Manager of the Social Work Department. “They bring empathy and dedication into every interaction, and I’m incredibly proud of the work they do each day to make a meaningful difference.”

Their presence elevates the level of care provided throughout the hospital. They remind us that healthcare is not just about treating conditions, it’s about caring for people.

This month, and every month, we are grateful for our social workers and the vital role they play in supporting our community.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is one of the top five cancers in northeastern Pennsylvania. Yet it’s highly preventable with screening. Colorectal cancer doesn’t always cause symptoms especially at first. That’s why getting screened regularly is so important. Dr. Clifford Carrol, a board-certified gastroenterologist at Wayne Memorial Hospital says it simply, “Screening saves lives.” A colonoscopy will reveal polyps that can be removed before developing into cancer. The American Cancer Society recommends screenings begin at age 45 for average-risk adults. If you’re in this category and have never been screened, ask your Primary Care Physician for a referral. For more information call 570-6161WMH or online at wmh.org It’s one of our most powerful tools against colorectal cancer.
