What Is Crohn’s Disease?

Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that affects the digestive tract. It can involve any part of the gastrointestinal system, from the mouth to the colon, and often causes inflammation that extends deep into the intestinal lining.

Because Crohn’s disease is a long-term condition, early diagnosis and appropriate management are important for maintaining digestive health.

𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐖𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐲?

Recovery is typically straightforward. 👏🏼

Here’s what patients can expect:

✔ You’ll rest in recovery while sedation wears off.
✔ Mild bloating or gas is normal.
✔ You’ll need someone to drive you home.
✔ Most people resume normal activities the next day.

If biopsies are taken or polyps are removed, results are reviewed and follow-up instructions are provided.

Colonoscopy is not only a diagnostic tool — it can also prevent colore**al cancer through early detection and removal of polyps.

𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧 𝐔𝐩𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐲? 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭.

It’s completely normal to feel nervous before a colonoscopy — especially if it’s your first one.

Here’s what typically happens:

✔ You’ll receive clear instructions for bowel prep ahead of time.
✔ The day before the procedure involves a temporary liquid diet and prescribed prep solution.
✔ On procedure day, you’ll receive sedation so you remain comfortable and relaxed.
✔ The procedure itself is usually brief.

Most patients report that the anticipation is often more stressful than the procedure itself.

Research indicates that approximately 75% of colore**al cancers diagnosed in adults under 50 are found at an advanced stage, with more than one-quarter identified as distant-stage disease.

This highlights the importance of recognizing symptoms, understanding family history, and discussing appropriate screening with a healthcare provider.

Colore**al cancer is often preventable and treatable when detected early.

Colore**al Cancer Rates Are Rising in Adults Under 65

Recent data from the American Cancer Society show that nearly 45% of new colore**al cancer diagnoses now occur in adults younger than 65, up significantly from past decades.

While rates are declining in adults over 65, diagnoses among younger adults continue to increase. Re**al cancer specifically now accounts for nearly one-third of colore**al cancer cases.

Awareness and appropriate screening remain key components of prevention and early detection.
