🌟 Hickory House is celebrating National Occupational Therapy Month by highlighting our fabulous therapists! 🌟

💪 Ellen Thompson earned her COTA/L from Harcum College and has practiced since 1986. She says she enjoys her work by helping people regain independence using creativity and problem solving skills to help them overcome their physical and mental challenges.

✨ When not at work, Ellen likes skiing, boating, volleyball, working with the youth at church and going to the movies. Ellen’s favorite things include Italian food, watching the TV show "Scrubs," and listening to Chicago and Jimmy Buffet. Her favorite actor is Tom Hanks. Thank you, Ellen, for all your hard work and dedication!

Wendy is our Assistant Director of Rehabilitation here at Hickory House and has 30 years experience after earning her degree from Harcum College. She says she loves being able to help people become more independent. 💚 On her days off, she enjoys reading, walking and playing with her dogs. 🐶 Wendy’s favorite food is pizza 🍕, her favorite TV show is “Shrinking," her favorite actor is Johnny Depp and her favorite musician is Prince.

Did you know that about 1.1 million people in the United States are living with Parkinson's disease (PD)? 🌷

🧠 This progressive brain disorder is perhaps most well known for causing tremors, but other symptoms include loss of vocal volume, sleep disruptions, stiffness, and balance issues, among others.

Thankfully, there are ways to improve Parkinson's symptoms! 😀 Our therapy team offers rehabilitation services to help improve mobility, range of motion, function, and speech for those living with PD. Call us to see how we can support you or your loved one.

We would like to highlight Cami Beyer, one of our Occupational Therapists here at Hickory House, as we celebrate OT Month this April! 🧑‍⚕️🧩🎉

Cami earned her degree at Alvernia University and has been practicing for 3 years. She enjoys working with clients, getting to know them, and helping them recover so they can get back to their favorite activities. 🌟 In her spare time, she enjoys reading, crafting, horseback riding, and golf. If you want to make Cami happy, she enjoys meatball subs, the TV show "Person of Interest," music by The Beatles, and Benedict Cumberbatch (her favorite actor). Thank you, Cami, for all you do! ❤️

Hickory House hosted its first Easter Egg Hunt! 🐣 The Easter Bunny hopped by and made some visits after hiding over 1,000 eggs! 🐰 We're wishing all our friends and family a Happy Easter weekend. 💝

What does Occupational Therapy look like❓

It looks like someone practicing how to button a shirt again. 👔 Rebuilding the strength and dexterity to hold a coffee cup. ☕ Rehearsing the motions to prepare a simple meal and learning to use a reacher to safely pick things up without bending 🫳.

During Occupational Therapy Month, we’re celebrating the amazing therapists who help our rehab patients rebuild confidence, independence, and the skills that make daily life meaningful. 🫶
