SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH 📚📓♥️

Did you know that more and more schools on our island are offering healthcare services on school campuses?

Benefits of school based health=
1️⃣ Parents don’t have to take off of work
2️⃣ Students can drop by and talk story with one of our healthcare workers
3️⃣ No cost to the student and their families

Kohala High School is the first school our health center is providing on-site services to. Every Wednesday our team is on campus from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. 🖤💛🖤💛

On-site services include:
✔️Counseling with our behavioral health staff
✔️Meeting with our community navigators
✔️Talking story with our family planning educator
✔️One-on-one or group talk story on the harmful effects of va**ng/electronic smoking devices.

Practices the traditional healing technique of lomilomi, a method of massage. He is passionate about Hawaiian, Eastern, and alternative healing medicine. These practices assess the healing process for the body, mind and soul. He studied with Papa Henry Auwae, Master of Hawaiian Herbal medicine.

💚 On September 28th, local organizations came together to host the Waipiʻo Valley Health Fair! Mahalo to Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies and the Outreach Team at the Hāmākua-Kohala Health Center for being the backbone of this project. The event was graciously hosted by Chauncey and Tiffany Hatico, who are multi-generational descendants of Waipiʻo and leaseholders of Kuʻu ʻOhana Farm.

The fair was able to provide a variety of resources to the community including good health check-ups, STI/STD testing and resources, pediatric appointments and resources, and insurance resources. Volunteers assembled 50 “survival buckets” with items contributed by every vendor. Each one included toilet paper, first aid kits, hygiene products, flashlights, and more.

Mahalo to all the organizations, volunteers, hosts, and community members that contributed to such a successful event! 👏🏼
