Meet the Therapist: Daniel Chow, MFT-I at Hawaii Therapeutic Partners:

One coping skill that you utilize when you’re feeling stressed:

“I like to use a mindfulness meditation in the outdoors to ground myself.”

One thing you wish you could tell your younger self:

“It's ok for you to take things at your own pace and explore your own path. You don't have to live up to anyone else's expectations.”

One character trait you value in a good friend:

“Accepts me for who I am and helps me to get outside of my comfort zone.”

Your idea of success:

“Continuing to grow and learn from new challenges and experiences.”

Your idea of the best way to be successful in life:

“Remembering that change is the only constant part of life, and learning to face them as chances to grow.”

Meet the Therapist: Micah Kobayashi, MFT-I at Hawaii Therapeutic Partners

One coping skill that you utilize when you’re feeling stressed:

“Spending time in the ocean. Surfing, fishing, diving or even just meditating on the beach always helps me to reground myself and mentally recharge.”

One thing you wish you could tell your younger self:

“Don’t try to grow up too quickly. Enjoy every stage of life and the unique challenges they bring. Be comfortable with where you are in life, and don’t take anything for granted.”

One character trait you value in a good friend:

“Open communication and honesty.”

Your idea of success:

“I don’t see “success” as a destination or end point, but rather a continual process of being able to learn through lived experiences and using that knowledge to continue growing. For me personally, success doesn’t equate to a dollar value, but I can count my successes by the moments in which I’ve created a positive impact in someone’s life, or having overcome a challenge that was once seemingly impossible.“

Your idea of the best way to be successful in life:

“Set goals and work in a systematic way to achieve each of them. Don’t limit yourself to what you think you’re capable of. Seek out help when you need it. Surround yourself with people who both support you and challenge you.”

One character trait you value in a good friend:

“Communication is always key for me, no matter what type of relationship. Friendship holds a special place for me, and keeping open and frequent communication is always important to me.”

Your idea of success:

“Having made some sort of positive impact in the different areas of my life.”

Your idea of the best way to be successful in life:

We’re proud to announce that we’re back in person!

While we’ll still be offering telehealth sessions on our secure, HIPAA compliant platform, we will now be offering in person sessions as well.
Benefits to meeting in person may include: an easier flow of communication with your therapist (without any audio or connectivity issues that may occur online), as well as an enhanced ability to work through and process emotions or past trauma, without being isolated at home.

Some of the benefits of doing sessions via telehealth platform that have been reported from our clients are: more convenient to schedule sessions with a busy work schedule, and added convenience to have the option of doing sessions from the comfort of your home.

Below is some information pertaining to our office location and parking, as shown in photo 2 (swipe to the left).

Our office is located at 2875 South King Street. The available parking spots are marked in green in the picture. Each visitor or client must sign in their vehicle upon entering the building, which is located up the stairs and to the right hand side. Our office is located on the right hand side of the hallway and it will be the double door, office suite 203.

Please contact your therapist to discuss in-person sessions, or for any inquiries contact us at admin@hitherapeuticpartners.com or (808) 460-3700.

🗣 Connecting with Others đŸ‘„

As members of our local communities, as well as the HIAMFT (Hawaiian Islands Association Marriage and Family Therapy), we at HTP value the importance of connecting with others. We’ve had the opportunity to share resources and ideas across many professions, not only amongst other therapists and mental health professionals. Some of these include doctors, social workers, teachers, dentists, barbers, digital media designers, and youth pastors, just to name a few. We encourage collaboration between health care professionals, businesses, and entrepreneurs not only for networking purposes, but also because what you do (the unique skills and knowledge you possess, the stories and experiences you have through your job) in turn, helps us to become better at what we do. If you’d like to learn more about our collaboration efforts, or connect with us for post-graduate consulting, therapy services and referrals, or other networking opportunities, please contact us at 808-460-3700 or by email at admin@hitherapeuticpartners.com.

🌄 New Beginnings 🌅

One year ago, the world was introduced to the virus we know today as Covid-19. The global pandemic drastically affected the working class, struggling to make ends meet, local businesses, forced to shut down after years of being the cornerstone of our communities, children and adolescents, who’ve had to adjust to online learning away from their peers, and families, that have had to deal with this turmoil within their homes. Amidst the looming feeling of uncertainty and unknowing, we have still found ways to find joy in the little things: connecting virtually with friends and family members, going outside and being in nature, and thinking/planning for the future. If there’s one thing we may have learned from this year, it’s that life can be unpredictable.

Although these unprecedented times may have fostered a newfound sense of resiliency in some, many of our neighbors still struggle to get back to their feet. Reaching out to a co-worker, cousin, or neighbor could make all the difference in the world for someone who’s been isolated, with little to no social contact during these trying times. We are, after all, inherently social beings, that are meant to be connected to those around us. As such, it can also be said that we are social learners, that gain something from every single person we come in contact with. Remaining void of these interpersonal connections increases the likelihood of anxiety and depression, and it is hard to be there for others, much less, ourselves within this mental state. If you or someone you know is dealing with issues like those listed above, please do not hesitate to start a conversation with us, today. You might find that your options are not as limited as you may think. An engaging conversation with one of our therapists might offer some insight, or a fresh perspective that will ultimately help you to become the best version of yourself.

What to expect in your ‘Free Consultation’ Meeting

So you’ve taken the first step in looking for a therapist to suit your needs, and you’ve come across Hawaii Therapeutic Partners (HTP). Perhaps you’ve combed through the online directories of available therapists in Hawaii (using Psychology Today), google searched “therapists on Oahu”, or have been referred to HTP by a friend or family member. Now, as you’re deciding whether or not to book that initial consultation meeting, you may have questions, such as:

“How much will therapy sessions cost?”
“How can I meet with my therapist if I have concerns of being exposed to COVID-19?”
“Are our therapy sessions kept private?”
“Will my therapist be able to help me with my specific situation/problem?”
“What is a marriage and family therapist intern?”
“Can this therapist provide support for my child/spouse/family members?”
“I don’t have any major problems right now, but just need someone to talk to. Is therapy for me?”

These are all great questions when considering a therapist, and above anything else, we believe that it is important to find a therapist that is a good fit for you. In our free consultation meeting we will address questions like those listed above, and openly discuss what therapy might look like. We encourage you to ask as many questions as you’d like and to make use of the full hour to really get to know your therapist and the therapeutic process. When you’re ready, head on over to www.hitherapeuticpartners.com/consultation to schedule your free consultation today.
